took my grand kids there to see the goings on. they have lots of specimen in the tanks and on site educators to guide the visitors in there experience. they have daily offering to do with eco management & aguaculture.

This is a very well put together organization --- from the Monday tour if the salt pond on the launch to the daily programs that they offer for kids --- all for $5.00 pp --- just wish they had more creatures in the tanks --- kids enjoyed the creature feature and the squid dissection --- just check the schedule and don't forget to see the sargasso fish --The

The Block Island Maritime Institute, or BIMI, is located on Ocean Avenue behind Payne's Donuts. They have great touch tanks for kids with all kinds of sea creatures from the Great Salt Pond.Crabs, fish, lobsters, jellyfish, shellfish, etc.It's everything you would see at the bottom of the Salt Pond but without getting your feet wet. Great signage to tell you what you are looking at, and often there is someone there to answer questions.Kayak and paddleboard rentals are available right behind there.
