I spend a lot of time up here walking and enjoying the beautiful sunsets and admiring the water and all the boats that go by. On a clear day you can see block island from here as well. The original Beavertail light is the 3rd oldest lighthouse along the east coast.

Always a breeze! I walk my dog there at least once a week. Makes me happy to live on the island. It's a great place to walk and get a little exercise or you can find your spot on the rocks and just relax.

When I visited Beaver Tail I was happy to see a wedding going on-During the warm weather there's always a wedding happening there. They have a little gift shop and they give talks on the lighthouse and its history-very nice.

The best water view in New England ! Light and keepers house has been renovated by an extremely able beaver tail light house association, great museum with the history of the third oldest lighthouse in the nation. Park is well kept and plenty of place for a picnic while watching ship traffic and sailboat races out of Newport

We took a break from the Newport Mansions for lunch and to see the lighthouses. This was such a scenic area. It was open and we were able to climb it.So pretty! 49 steps & 1 ladder.

Located on Coanicut Island right next to Newport, RI , Beavertail is spectacular. Lighthouse, craggy shoreline, waves crashing on rocks, rambunctious tides, sailboat races from Newport, diverse marine traffic, gorgeous sunsets and all of it leaves you with a feeling of awe and gratitude for the opportunity to witness the splendor!A camera is essential, walking shoes or sneakers also, climbing on the rocks near the water is always fun, fishing, some surfing. You can make it a short visit or spend the day and bring a lunch and warm clothing for when the sun sets.

Super place to catch the sunset, picnic with family, walk the dog and connect with the sea. Great views of many historic areas. The British and French fleets fought here, German U-boats stalked Allied shipping, America's Cup yachts race offshore. Nice combination of human and natural history. Be sure to catch the lighthouse museum or the little aquarium (summer).

Stopped at Beavertail on a recommendation from our hotel desk clerk. Even though it was cold there was a good crowd. The view is great, park is very clean. Lots of fisherman on the rocks braving the cold. Can't imagine what the crowd is like during warmer weather. If you a lighthouse buff this a place to stop.

As a photographer, this Light offered many wonderful vantage points for taking photos, with my favorite view being from the rocks near the ocean. The park is lovely and the lighthouse is well kept.

This small, quiet, beautiful, and free state park and historic light are hidden gems. There's a walking trail at the first parking lot, simple but always clean rest facilities, and plenty of grassy area for walking your leashed dog or just taking in the gorgeous ocean view. Pack a couple of lawn chairs, stop in Jamestown Village at Slice of Heaven or the Village Hearth bakery, pick up a superb lunch or snack and coffee at either place, and head out to Beavertail for the best cheap date in RI!

We have to laugh at ourselves sometimes. For years we would rush past Jamestown to get over the Pell bridge to Newport and beyond - always casually wondering what this little island was like, but not taking the time to explore. No more! Jamestown is one of the most charming little shoreline villages you will find anywhere. Beavertail Light and Park as well as the choice of small restaurants and bakeries are always a high-light of the visit - regardless of the weather. Miss this attraction, and you will miss a true highlight of your time in the Narraganset Bay area.

My wife and I love visiting lighthouses and were lucky enough to catch Beavertail open for a visit. Beautiful views and wonderful volunteers!

We arrived too late to visit the museum, but the park provides a great view of the sunset over the water. The lighthouse is charming and the park was quiet.

This was a spur of the moment decision on a bright sunny October afternoon. Beavertail sits on the end of Jamestown, in a smallish park with trails along the bay and ocean. Recently restored and opened to the public, the all volunteer preservation group has really done amazing things with not just the building, but the informative and interesting (and in some cases interactive) displays on the history of this particular lighthouse as well as other lighthouses/stations in RI. Walking around the grounds also brings you to the foundation of the original lighthouse, a small aquarium displaying marine life of the area, and a battery from the War of 1812.Oh and best of all, it's FREE. Though donations are gratefully accepted.
