There is the fairway, a collar of rough and boulders. Do what you have to to keep the ball in fairway and always keep the ball below the pin. Some greens have four tiers so you could practice lots of putting without meaning to. It is a great layout and a challenge, so choose your tees carefully. Very pricey considering this is Maine, not Pinehurst.

Beautiful layout and friendly staff. Course is in fantastic condition and a true test. Not much for after round food. A bit pricy, but worth a try if you like to golf

I have played The Ledges three times now. The first time I didn't play too well and my take on the course was mostly negative as a result. But after playing it twice in the last month, from two different sets of tees, I would say if you play it from the proper tees it is an enjoyable course, though by no means an easy one. There are plenty of elevation changes, none more dramatic than the downhill par 3 8th. With the leaves turning every shade of red, orange and yellow, you will find it hard to focus on that wee little green down there! There aren't many straight tee shots, and the ones that are you better have a laser with you so you don't hit too far - 18 you could land a plane on, but the second shot, over a protected area, is the tricky shot, and still leaves an uphill third to a tough green.As another reviewer noted, you "better bring your A game"! The course is a test, especially the uphill and downhill holes, with views all the way to the I95 bridge between Portsmouth and Kittery from some of the holes. Bring an extra sleeve of balls and expect to be humbled a time or two as you wend your way around this course. All in all, you should find The Ledges an enjoyable test of your game.

Course was in fair shape considering the price charged ($92). There were dead spots around the “frog hair” and some greens had areas of dead. Here and there on the fairways was also dead patches. That being said, I gave it 4 stars because it was a very challenging course, what I would consider mountain golf, great scenery and undulating greens, but some of which had unrepaired ball marks that appeared to be there over time. We would play again when in the area but only if the price is reduced. For $92 I expect pristine conditions. Probably 15 minutes off Route 1 on back roads. Only if we found a deal would we consider going again. When we were done and the staff asked at the end how we enjoyed it we commented on the condition and he said all the courses suffered this year. I don’t believe that. This was not a dry summer and we played 2 other courses in the area that didn't have these problems. For these conditions, lower the price!

This track is a test for the scratch golfer and can certainly be intimidating for the high handicapper. The greens are absolutely HUGE and there isn't a flat putt on the whole course. I'm willing to be that those lucky ones who have experienced Sugarloaf should certainly see similarities; number eight at The Ledges will remind you of 11 at The Loaf! Try it, you're gonna like it!

The Ledges is easily a top 10 course in the state if not a top 5 course. The greens and fairways were in great shape and each hole is unique. There are only 2 negatives to this course. First, the cart paths are in desperate need of repair. With a little new asphalt, the course would seem all that much better. The second negative is the price. Compared to the other top courses in the state (that all offer discounted rates from time to time) the greens fees seem to be a little high. I would highly recommend playing this course!

My husband played this golf course twice. It was a rainy, and stormed both times, but he still loved playing it, because it was so well kept.

92 Dollars equals great greens pockmarked and ragged fairways cartpaths that need a 4 by 4 cart does nobody work on this track put some money into it. Save your doe this is not worth it

Planning trip to southern Maine, spend much time looking for courses to play. Ledges had some great reviews, including Golf Digest. So it went on the list. We played 2 days - but more about that later. Great course, great staff, and even great food at the club house (the best Reuben Sandwich (with drunken sauerkraut - beer added), and onion rings we've had) . I found all the holes to be challenging and a lot of fun to play. The view and setting was fantastic. Each hole had is own character carved out of hills. The course was meticulous; with grounds keepers all over.The front nine was my favorite all the 3 courses we played this week - Ledge, Outlook and Old Marsh. All 9 holes were special. Rolling hills allows to chase balls up to many greens. Some short par 4's required good course management. No need to bring the driver to every tee box.The par 3, 8th is truly scenic. Its the picture on their web site. 170-180 yds straight downhill with a pond on the left. My best hole - 10 ft from the each day. Missed the putt both days also :(We played two days as a storm came as we were finishing the front nine on day one. I was having a Caddyshack 'priest' day, and didn't want to stop. But sadly, they maybe us stop because of lightning in the area. That gave us time to talk with the staff at the pro shop and restaurant. Great people. Helpful and friendly. Anyway, got a raincheck for 9 holes and came came back a few days later - the drizzle again on the front nine felt like we hadn't left. Sun came out for the back 9. Knowing the front nine from day 1, helped on day 2 as tee shot placement was important.Bottom-line: play Ledges. You'll want to play it again. I know I do.

The course was in great shape, with only a few areas that needed some recovery from the weather. Everyone we met was very helpful and pleasant to deal with, the course was obviously well-managed. Play was a slow, but the staff made efforts to move players along. I would suggest avoiding Saturdays, which seemed to be significantly more crowded. It is a challenging course, so less-experienced players may want to move up a tee box, as some of the holes are long or more difficult.All in all, a very nice course.

Played here many times in past. Great layout, great staff. Unfortunately this past experience not as positive as previous experiences. The fairways were in especially poor condition which was unexpected given the greens fees. Appears as though they may be experiencing financial difficulties not putting much back into the course. Quite the shame. to be honest, this course currently is not worth the money given all the other really nice courses in New England that are far less costly.

We love playing this public course! The holes are well laid out, challenging, and in a beautiful setting and the price is nice. Save time to savor your round at the 19th hole outdoor deck.

This is a very nice course; great shape; however, individuals who play here need to invest in a ball mark repair tool.Golf shop is very nice; however, did not understand why we needed to wait 30 minutes to tee off, when there was no one in front of us and we were ready.
