No vineyard or orchard to tour, despite their brochure saying so. Wine was terrible. Make you pay for samples.

Its something to do if you end up with a rainy day on vacation. Wines aren't great but they are generous. Sparkling Cranberry was my favorite along with the hard ciders.

The server was not well informed about the wines. The grapes are not local and though some of the wines were good, there was nothing outstanding. The ciders were good too. I was not impressed by the blueberry but the raspberry is worth it.

I sure didn't expect to stand for the wine tasting, but it wasn't bad. We took home a red and a white that we have had before (both around $10 and which we saw at the Umbrella Factory in Naples for about $1 more) and it was an OK way to waste an hour. Our bartender was very friendly, but the owner/operator not so much. I like the Fatty apple cider, but it ain't cheap, either. My sister always goes here because her favorite gift store, Cry of the Loon is right across the street (also pricey) and buys my niece and I a bottle before we get to the summer house, so this year we decided to go ourselves. I am not sure that we will add it to our "must do" when we go every summer, but who knows?

I live a mile from the winery and as the business has "matured" they have devalued the product. I get to Napa about once year and still remember them grilling me about the wine tastings in California, being most interested in how much do they charge. Look the wine is OK, its not great and it is over priced and not worth the $5 tasting fee. The $5 only buys you 3 tastings. Oh, and you don't get the glass if you buy wine nor get $5.00 towards your purchase. I stopped going here as the wine is average, over priced and the $5 fee is ridiculous in Maine, Save your $25 ($30 if you do a tasting) and buy a nice Cab down the street at the Good Life Deli. They have a great selection of reds. How disappointing, just gouging the tourists.

i like this winery and i dont' have any issue with charging the tiny fee for tastings. And blueberry wine is a must. not sure if i would drive out of my way for this place but if in area it is worth it. i walked out with 6 bottles of wine.

We are in Maine frequently and used to love this winery because they had free wine tastings. We enjoyed sampling their wines and talking with owner or whoever was working that day. This year they started charging $1.00 per sample, so we won't be doing that anymore! You can buy their wine elsewhere, so no need to go there anymore. :(

I've been here a few times & have always enjoyed stopping in. I was very surprised/disappointed to find out that they now charge for their wine tastings. In the past, it was always free & I'd end up buing a case (it is really great wine...and you get 10% off a case). If I had known they charged for the tastings though, I wouldn't have driven out there, as I can pick up their wine at the local grocery store. I did buy my case, but I won't make a special trip to Blacksmiths again.

It is a shame that this excellent winery is off the beaten path of Portland visitor. It is a short trip if you have your GPS plugged in. Well worth you time. Actually a very enjoyable ride through the Sebago Lake area near Naples. I visited 9 wineries in Maine in May. It is in the top two. The man who owes it and poured for us could not have been nicer. He has done a very nice job with tasting room ambiance. Blacksmith's Winery is not a wine "snob" tasting room, it is for people who want to know how these Maine wines are made. My pick was Roughshod, a Blueberry wine with Grape Brandy, and my wife loved Cabernet Sauvignon, very light and easy on the palate. The grapes come from various regions and the berries from local sources. Here is the surprise, they have HARD cider and it is GREAT. Apples are local and you can even buy a Growler, a refillable Jug , for those who can't stay away.

Had a great time wine tasting with my wife and another couple. This Maine winery purchases grapes from various regions and makes some good wines. The tasting room really is a former Blacksmith's shop has authentic charcter. The tasting room host was friendly and knew all about the wines and the region. He recommended some other great stops for us. Definitely visit if you are in the area!
