The Paul Bunyon monument nearby is interesting. Nice riverfront, great for a picnic or barbecue. There is a nice waterwheel nearby.

It was raining the day we stopped, so we only stayed a couple minutes. We took a picture of the falls and Paul and visited the information center. There is a nice sign telling some of the history of the falls next to the parking lot.

Rumford Falls, upper falls is the largest water falls this side of Niagara. In the spring and after heavy rains it is quite spectacular. The new owners of the Power Co. have lit the falls on one side at night, I have seen both sides lit but only occasionally. The series of 3 falls over 1/4 mile when added up the elevation is 10 feet taller than Niagara Falls but obviously not as dramatic as one drop. During heavy water flow this site is worth the trip!

I was a bit disappointed in this waterfall, but the people at the visitor center were nice and gave me some great places to see while on my drive through Northern Maine, so I can't say this stop was all bad. There wasn't much "flow" to the waterfall while I was there, and I'm not sure if during the spring that changes much. It seems that water levels are controled by a dam, in order to make electricity. Either way, it was a good chance to stop and see a giant Paul
