This part of Maine is all about the outdoors and this museum is a celebration of it. It is beautifully curated, loaded with fascinating facts and stories, and a delightful snapshot of this part of Maine. There is so much to see here...be a part of it for only $5!!

Great little museum that shows the history of flyfishing in the Rangeley, Maine region. If you are not interested in flyfishing, then this may not be for you.

An amazing small museum, rich in history, biographical info on colorful characters of the region, wonderful displays and exhibits, a welcoming place and one that takes some time to savor.

One of our favorite places to visit in the Rangeley region with or without guests is the Rangeley Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum. Although located in Oquossoc, this museum would be at home in any major city. The extensive, in-depth exhibits provide the visitor with a detailed account of the area. We loved the authentic log cabin one enters upon entering the museum on the right with its birch ceiling and genuine period furnishings. We also greatly enjoyed the paleo American section of the museum with its many artifacts which explains the history of the native peoples in the Rangeley Lakes area going back thousands of years. The well done film on the sporting, hotel and railroad history of the region is not to be missed. Please visit this excellent museum; it will enhance your visit to the beautiful area immeasurably.

I've heard an awful lot of good things about this place and finally went in after a great lunch at Tall Tales Tavern across the street. Our Docent was knowledgeable as she took us into an old log cabin moved here from Loon Lodge. Check out the amazing craftsmanship of the door! $5 was a bargain to get in. I'm going to have to get a membership so I can go back and read about more of the exhibits. If you have spent any time in the western mountains of Maine, this is a good trip. Plan to spend an hour or so.

This little museum is a gem of preservation of an important part of Maine and outdoor life. Though not a large facility, one can walk away with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the richness of the region. On display are some amazing specimens! (Never saw such big trout/salmon!) Made us think hard about how we need to work to hang on to what is out there now in our waters and woods in Maine. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the facility well organized; bathroom neat and clean. Right across the road, we ate at an amazing little restaurant. If you've got your boat/canoe, you can put it in the water just across the street.

Stumbled across this museum driving through Oquossoc on a rainy day, and decided to stop in to check it out. So glad we did! This small museum features fascinating exhibits on Maine history, from Native American archeological artifacts to the sporting era that defined the region in the 30s and 40s. The museum staff clearly know everything about the region's history -- half the fun of the visit was chatting with one of the museum guides about the story behind each exhibit. The museum also includes a small space exhibiting contemporary art, sculpture and woodworking from local Maine artists. The vibe of the museum is laid-back and friendly, which my family appreciated. We are looking forward to stopping back in soon to see the new exhibits.
