This is wonderful place to visit. We kayak out that way and have taken several visitors there. The history is amazing and the museum is staffed by wonderful local people, who are doing what they love. A must see if you can there.

We ended up going to Eagle Island on a seal watch cruise. We hadn't even seen the blurb about visiting Eagle Island so we weren't aware of the stop there. I have sled dogs here in Vermont and have read many books on arctic exploration so I'm very aware of Perry's exploits. I found the tour of his old family home and island to be extremely interesting and a wonderful surprise. We used the self guided tour which provided a lot of information about Perry as well as his family and the home that he built there on Eagle Island. The island itself is beautiful.

We finally visited, and are so glad that we did, what a lovely home/museum on a beautiful island. The audio tour was good, learned much more about Admiral Peary then I ever knew. Their are walking trails, flower beds and a beautiful view in every direction. The docent was enthusiastic and informative, thank goodness they have dedicated volunteers preserving this historic landmark, they should be very proud of their hard work in an out-of-the-way museum.

The trip to Eagle Island to see Admiral Peary's home is not to be missed if you are in the area of Freeport, Maine. It's a beautiful island and there's lots of information on Admiral Peary and his family. The two volunteers were most helpful and enthusiastic. There's an audio guide to the house. We took the Atlantic Seal trip with Captain Ring - highly recommended.

Great destination, pack a picnic lunch, plenty of picnic table with views that are incredible. Island walk is easy and short. Definitely an adventure if you are visiting or local!

We had an incredible afternoon on our Eagle Island adventure. First of all, the Atlantic Seal Cruise with Captain Ring defined everything we love about being in Maine - real, down-to-earth, kind and absolutely made in the USA. We saw seals and pulled lobster pots on route. Don't bother sitting aft...head to where the action is all the way forward and catch the briny ocean air. You can hear him better, too. On Eagle Island, the volunteers could not have been more inviting and interesting. One actually lived with the Pearys for a month feasting on seals and rabbits. Admiral Peary's home has a player piano that rocked the house with american tunes from yesteryear, an incredible fieldstone fireplace that is an absolute work of art, a haunted closet, a cool peephole, and incredible artifacts including a polar bear. Magical pathways, tons of butterflies and birds...Get out of the material shopping world and have an incredible adventure in Casco Bay...you won't regret it!!

Very interesting to learn more about Peary's family. Nice boat ride out and very informative trip. We try to visit every time we're in Maine.

Peary's summer home, a beautiful small island with his work things still there. Incredible local stone fireplace.

My wife and I visit once or twice a year. Sail to the island, drop off passengers and grab a mooring and the friendly park ranger picks us up at the mooring. She drives around picking people up all day. Great place for a picnic.
