Yes, this is the northern terminus on US1. Its a destination trip for travelers who are interested in how the US shaped itself in the history of our geography. There are so many things to think about when one considers the influence of this historic road. It was significant in history as far as commerce and access to the eastern border. . If one has enough time to traverse this local road all the way to its northern or southern end, you will get snapshots of many small towns and larger cities. The unique designation as a US road gives more flexibility to how the road may be used, and it often deviates from the customary architecture or businesses of a town. As to Fort Kent, it is a quaint place that welcomes people to this destination. One interesting thing is that Fort Kent is further north than Montreal and Quebec, deep into Canada's provincial area. If you get an opportunity, visit a Maine potato farm.

I didn't know there was a historic landmark in this area. So naturaly I had to check it out. It is interesting to read the history behind it and take a picture fto remember. Now I can say I have been on both ends of the maker. One in Fort Kent and the oher down South in Key West

Nice historical attraction which shows where Route One begins. This is especially interesting if you have seen where Route One ends in Key West. There is a bridge to Canada within walking distance of this granite monument. Interesting site and good place for photos.

Fun to see since we had been at the last mile in Key West a few years ago.Had we had our passports we could have checked in at customs and crossed the bridge into Canada right at this spot but we were on a mission to Allagash to take in the wonders of nature

This is a historic piece of road which starts here and finishes all the way down in Key West Florida. I have made it to both ends now, just have some ground to cover in between. There is a nice Granite monument here with a few benches and if the weather would have been nicer the day I visited, I might have stopped for lunch.
