sunday river ski resort

I hesitate to write this review because I don't want to encourage more visitors. That's part of what I love about this place. Enough people come here to keep the lights on and buy new snowmaking equipment every year, but if it turns into Killington I'll shoot myself. It's not quaint- like a Cranmore, but if you want a huge variety of terrain, many lifts to shorten lift lines, many good restaurant choices, professional staff, blah blah blah- this is as good as it gets.

Stayed in Cascades due to indoor pool and slope side access. Never going back to it again. Convenient, yes but...1. It only has stairs. We carried all our luggages 3 steep flights up. 2. They say fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher. No it is not. No dishwasher. Jay Peak in Vermont has fully equipped kitchen. This place, not comparable at all. AND bring your ladles and turners too. They have one that is probably a toy as the turner melted as soon as it touched the frying pan. I am not putting their plastic stuff on my food. Their turners and ladles are cheaper in quality than anything you can buy from the dollar store. I honestly think the cooking utensils in my daughters pretend kitchen is much durable. 3. There is a phone in the room but no dial tone. No way to contact housekeeping or guest services. Use your phone if you have a cell signal or run to the foyer and use the phone by the entrance. All the times at least once each day of our 6 day stay I WAS NOT able to get hold of anybody from guest services or from house keeping. I had to go to South Ridge (main building / front desk) to speak to somebody or just wait for housekeeping and hunt them somewhere in the condo whenever they do their rounds. The latter is what we ended up doing. Stupid yes but it was the easiest and most convenient way to get hold of housekeeping.4. Our towels and pillow cases were soiled during arrival. There's pubic hair on the towels that were hanging. The white pillow cases has hair and brown smudges on it like it has never been washed. During our whole stay, I was thinking all our sheets and blankets have never been washed from the last time the room was occupied.5. They only have one chondola. We froze as we seat on those chairlifts. Such torture. 6. Housekeeping come and go without tending to our needs despite that we left a note for them and tip. 7. I needed some veggies to eat or cook at the condo. The grocery by South Ridge don't have veggies. They told me the only veggies they have are potatoes, onions and cucumber. No, they are not vegetables. So they do not carry vegetables. I bought fruits though - one apple, two oranges and 4 banana. I bought them all. Left none.8. Ate at the Camp, nice ambience BUT their salad entree is the cost of a salad entree but the size of a side salad. Not worth it. Not going back. 9. We have a wall clock in the room but the batteries have never been replaced. 10. Icy slopes. Slopes beyond the North Peak are icy.11. Some slopes are closed and roped off without being notified or without any of the crew, staff, instructors knowing it is closed. 12. The lift that connects Jordan Hotel or the base of Jordan Bowl to South Ridge (base of North Peak) is closed on weekdays. Why? How inconvenient. PROS:1. Ski instructors are knowledgeable. The one that works with the kids are very patient and loving to children. Better than any other ski school I have came across. 2. Someday Bigger Day Care. I love all of them there. My daughter stayed there for 2 days and they are sweet, accommodating, caring. Your kid is in good hands at Someday Bigger. The staff have a big and caring heart for the children. 3. You have your own dedicated internet line. Therefore internet speed is fast. We had the cable modem in the room so one can bring a wireless router to provide a wireless internet connection for your own use during your stay.

Great March SkiingThere is plenty of snow and no crowds. Truly the best big mountain skiing in the East.

Being an avid skier traveling to Vermont and New Hampshire I decided to travel a bit further this year to Sunday River. The additional hour and a half drive from Lincoln, NH was well worth the trip. Sunday RIver Maine offers great skiing, the challenging mountains combined with great grooming, this resort offers all the best of the best at reasonable prices. Midweek skiing is always best to eliminate weekend crowds. FYI, New England has a mid winter break the last two weeks of February. I would not recommend skiing during that time.

Sunday River is my favorite mountain on the East Coast for planning a snowboarding vacation. So much terrain - you can't get board.Best partsJordan bowl is so awesome to ski and ride. It can be challenging to get to, so it can be less crowdedWorst partsWind is an issue here, so on a bad day - Jordan is closed, and OZ and White Cap are sheets of ice.

I was here with my son and several of our cousins - the weather was bitter cold, but the skiing was good and the staff at Sunday River were great. My son had a blast!

If you like crowds of unskilled high speed jerks doing the speed swival down an icerink..you'll love it.. The key is to go midweek. Too many intersections and traversing, a very short hill and has the smell of corporate all over..Better family choices in the area or if you want GREAT SKIING >>> Go To VERMONT.

This is bar none the largest and tallest ski area in New England with eight peaks and mostly black diamond runs, so beginners might want to try some place else first. As someone with low blood pressure I also found the altitude to be an issue for me. I had trouble breathing sometimes, and I got tired much more quickly than I normally do, but it's probably not as much of an issue for most people.There is a warning on the trail map that the ratings for Sunday River should not be compared to ratings at other mountains. That's for sure! Their green trails are more like blues and the blues are more like single blacks. Many of the green trails are very long and steep, although some are nice and wide. The ones that are not nice and wide are not as steep, but they're more like blues in my opinion. Needless to say, whereas I mostly ski blues at other mountains, I stuck to the greens at Sunday River. There are two very long and continuous green trails: Dream Maker and Lollapalooza. I've never skied on trails this long before!Unlike a lot of places in the east, there are a lot of natural skiing areas (most are black or double black diamonds), so thrill seekers and really experienced skiers understandably love this place.The signage is not great, so that's another reason for inexperienced skiers not to ski here because you can easily end up on the wrong trail. Sometimes there are signs for trails that are not even on the map!And there are not a lot of people working the lifts or providing assistance of any sort, so it's hard to get information about what trails are like. If you have an accident on one of the trails it doesn't seem as though help would be readily available.But it is probably the most majestic area in the east and the closest to being out west in New England.

Sunday River claims they have a fun resort experience for their customers, and offer the best mountain skiing around. After a recent trip to Sunday River I found this was not true. I recently went to Sunday rive and paid and exorbitant amount of $90 for a ticket. I skied the morning on Snow cap and was working my way towards the Jordan bowl with the friends I was with. We can to the mid-mountain crossover and found there were ropes in indicating the trail was closed.. THE ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE (skiers left) OF THE MOUNTAIN WAS CLOSED!! 4 PEAKS!! My friend happens to work for a weather related company and happened to have a wind measuring device with him. He measured the winds at 20 mph gusting to 25 mph. NO REASON for these chairs to be closed. I then skied down to the guest relations desk to an utterly useless female who advised.. "yeah its windy... so we closed it. We dont know when we will open that side of the mountain". After speaking to her about paying excessively high rates to ski at this mountain they should have it open for 20 mph winds. She said she couldn't helped me and just pushed me along. My friends were staying in the Jordan Bowl condos for a few days, and had no way of getting back to their condo. The guest relations individual had no answer for how they could get back, and said, "ummm check back later". I believe the management of this mountain is piss poor at best, and their customer relations group is useless at explaining anything. I used to frequent this mountain and recommend it to people. However, over the last 5 years or so this resort has gone downhill. I would recommend saving your money and going someplace else that values their customers.

Just got back from our school vacation week ski trip. We love Sunday River. My daughter learned to ski at Sunday River when she was 4 and now at age 10, she was skiing black diamond trails. The ski instructors and staff are warm, friendly and helpful. The food and drink at the lodge is really good. If you like skiing on the East, give Sunday River a try.

Sunday River is HUGE. We skied for 3 days and hardly repeated a run. There is a great variety of terrain and the fastest chairlifts I've ever seen.Some great food options as well.

Sunday River is a great mountain with great variety and gets more snow that mountains in New Hampshire but after all the snow we have received and they boasted about, I would have expected a better job spreading the snow on the trails after the wind storm they had the night before.

Large variety of terrain; happily gave rain checks when lifts were on wind hold during President's Week. Workers very friendly. Web site could use update, lacks basic information like base and peak temperatures and wind speed. Really just has fluff copy.

This was our first visit to Sunday River and we were pleasantly surprised. There's eight peaks all of which are very different. There's lots of varied terrain with beginner trails all the way up to some challenging doubles and the glade skiing is superb. We spent 6 days skiing and never ran out of new trails to ski.Only issue is that the lodgings are on the two edges of the mountain and all the main guest services including ski school and rentals are in the middle so if you need those things (thankfully we didn't) you need to drive to the south lodge every day. Not as convenient as lodging right there... Also some of the chairlifts are so slow I could walk up the mountain faster (Locke??? Come on guys, time for a new chair...). But most chairs move pretty fast and the Chondola (never seen one,) was a pleasant surprise.

A Great place. We went in the fall for the color and the ski lift ride. So colorful this time of year. We have friends that have a condo there so we stayed for the weekend.
