You have to have realistic expectations here. It is not Aspen, so don't come in thinking you are in Colorado. The people are friendly, the slopes are great for beginners, and the instructors are wonderful. My daughter was in the developmental program this year. 8 weeks later, I saw an intermediate skier. Thank you, Tuxedo Ridge, for fun and affordable skiing. We'll be back!

I went there for the first time a month ago and I have to say the experience for my friends niece was petrifying to say the least. She was afraid on the lift and had to cicle the park and when she arrived she didnt jump of again because she was afraid. The workers stopped the lift and made her jump about 10 ft down into her cousins arms. The cousin went this past Thursday and videotaped the workers making a man jump down off the lift at a high level. That is not ok! That is dangerous and someone can break their neck, or a leg or whatever!

I have fond memories of skiing at Sterling Forest as a child, and it's a shame this place has never been improved since then. To start with, the parking situation is a fiasco. The lots are on the other side of the road. On a busy day you have to park several parking lots away, trudge a far distance and up a steep hill all while carrying heavy ski equipment. Once you finally get to the run-down lodge you'll find long ticket lines on the weekend. Then head up even more stairs to find there are only 2 working chair lifts - one on a very tiny bunny hill. Lift lines are very long on the weekends. The trail map shows 4 chair lifts, but two are always out of commission. On weekdays they don't up until 1pm, so you can't get in a full day. The cafeteria is typical lousy overpriced fare, though there is a decent pub onsite. Also the bathrooms are down a very steep flight of concrete steps. Not easy to navigate in ski boots. Pros - one of the closest resorts to Bergen and Rockland Counties, lift tickets are priced similarly to other small ski places, and if you're nostalgic for the old Sterling Forest, the place hasn't changed.

Took my kids here one evening to meet some friends...it is a very small place...but the runs are nice...when the lift broke down, the kids helped them out and it got running. They ended up giving them passes for later to use. Nice people here as well...if just looking for a reasonably priced evening of fun-this is the place to come.

Only one hour from nyc makes it easy to make it a day trip. I went with a group (CUwoodburry) and really enjoyed it. It was my first skiing experience. The place is not overwhelming, I skied on the beginner slope and it was very fun. From what I heard there are also more advanced slopes for every level.

It's not fancy but the price is way more reasonable. Gives people a local, home-like feeling. As beginners myself, I stayed on the green trail. It is doubly wide than the other green trails I've been to. So I get a lot of room practicing my parallel turns without worrying about bumping into people. They have a warming hut separate from the cafeteria and let people bring their own food without feeling embarrassed. Of course we order from the cafeteria, too, so they didn't really lose much sales. But it makes me feel at home. Staff is nice, too. Last time they even offer to carry three sets of rental skis for us back to the rental office as they tried to speed up the closing process. My only complain is that ther is little room to put your bags or you'll have to rent a locker for $20 per day. So we ended up just leaving our shoes and nonvaluable items outside like everyone else. I wish they have free bag check like the other ski places but that of course comes with a price. We are returning every Saturday for the rest of this season!

Manageable hills for beginner skiers. You will walk away feeling successful in accomplishing a day of skiing. Small Local home grown feel to the place. Cozy tavern with friendly faces.

The snow tubing was terrible - two small slopes with a long line. The wait was endless for a quick, unexciting slide. Save your money. Go somewhere else.

Extremely disappointing! We were at Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center on Sunday, February 16 for tubing. It was the WORST experience! I DO NOT recommend going there! My kids told me that the hill was so lame! I paid $50 for my 2 kids to go down the littlest hill which only has 2 runs. They were only able to get 4 runs in for the 90 minute period. Not only was it expensive and crowded, the parking lot was a nightmare. The parking attendant told me that they were full to capacity - when I asked him what he suggests I do, he shrugged his shoulders! Totally LAME - DON'T GO THERE!

VERY DISAPPOINTING! We were at Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center on Sunday, February 16 for tubing. It was the WORST experience! I DO NOT recommend going there! Employees had to push us down at the top of the hill and then another employee had to push us down in the middle of the run because it was so slow. I paid $50 for my son and myself to go down the littlest hill which only has 2 runs. We were only able to get 4 runs in for the 90 minute period. Not only was it expensive and crowded, the parking lot was a nightmare. We showed up at 11:30 for our 12:00 tubing reservation and had to wait 1/2 hour just to park the car. Needless to say, We will NEVER BE BACK!

You would think that the people who run Tuxedo Ridge had NO IDEA that people might want to ski during a long weekend after receiving over a foot of natural snow. We tried to take our 3 1/2 year old skiing there yesterday... the Sunday of Presidents' Weekend... for her first time on skis. The wait to get lift tickets took 1 1/2 alone... then 30 more for rentals. Only 2 of the 3 ticket windows were open and the kids at the rental counters were losing and misplacing forms and equipment- they just seemed unprepared for and unable to accommodate the crowd. They were out of small boots and small helmets. We paid for an hour lesson and the teenagers in the "ski school" area barely kept our daughter for a half hour before handing her back over without a real explanation. We understood that she wouldn't be skiing after one lesson, but they did very little to engage her or even play with her in the snow. We got one run in on the bunny slope before trying to get into the overcrowded lodge and then giving up and turning our stuff in and just going home. $200 waste of time and money.

Celebrated my nephews 21st bday party at this resort and had a GREAT experience. First, I have to mention that it was a party of 45! Despite the large group of people the staff was very welcoming and patient. The ski lessons were awesome because of how supportive and humorous the instructors were. There was a "homey" and friendly vibe felt from both the staff and environment. A BIG thank you to the awesome staff! Great job

You have to think of Tuxedo Ridge for what it is. If you are in Northern NJ or Rockland County, it's ideally close, maybe 30 minutes. The lift tickets and rentals if needed are competitively priced. It's worth comparing Tuxedo Ridge to Mount Peter because they are perhaps 10-15 minutes apart. Mount Peter is slightly further, slightly more expensive and slightly bigger. I like them both.Tuxedo is definitely rarely as busy as Mount Peter which has a better reputation, generally deserved. Tuxedo has room to store equipment in their warming hut or in the main building where the snack bar can be found. Unfortunately, the prices at the snack bar are outrageous. $3 for a cup of coffee?? Really? In general though, the people who work there are very nice and try to be helpful and accommodating. I have often seen managers walking around asking people if they need help...that's one thing you rarely see at Mount Peter. They have plenty of rentals. If you want a real mountain, you have to drive at least another 60-90 minutes north. So, for what it is, it is very good.
