They're not going to win gold at the Great American Beer Fest anytime soon....but doesn't mean a good beer lover can't find a pint of their liking. Their Oatmeal Stout was excellent. Their IPAs were getting there. I really enjoyed the Sour Porter.

We were wandering aimlessly around Stephentown and stumbled upon this excellent little bar that brews it's own delicious beers. In particular I loved the Ancient Gruit, a pre-agricultural brew. My husband enjoyed the coffee stout. The service was extremely friendly, and we even got a huge bottle of beer to bring home to our friends!

I have gone for a pint or two to the Beer Diviner a couple, maybe 3 dozen times now and I don't plan to stop anytime soon. They have a great selection of their locally brewed beers -- from stouts and IPAs to red ales to wheat beers, etc. The decor is "rustic" but the company is fine -- we've all converged on this tap room in the middle of nowhere because we all appreciate great beer. Here you'll hobnob with NYC people on their way back to Manhattan or Brooklyn from a weekend in Vermont or Massachusetts, road bike clubs that have happened by, regional people from ALbany or Pittsfield, MA who have heard about this gem in the wilderness, locals of all stripes, and various country bumpkins who look unsophisticated but come in with two or three growlers to be filled with some very sophisticated beer. All in all it's a cheery place that also serves wine for your non-beer-drinking date. There is also a large selection of regionally-made wines, liquors, whiskies, hard ciders and the like. Check this place out sometime -- the more the merrier, I say.

The Beer Diviner is a great place to stop and try out a very good selection of Homemade Craft Beer. They also have a very good selection of some Bottled Craft Beer. If you are so inclined, there are Growlers available to take home your selection from the 9 or 10 taps they usually have going. Average price for a 16 OZ draft is $5, worth every dime. The Diviner itself is a work in progress and at the rate it is going, should evolve into a very unique and special place. If you get hungry, there is a Food Truck parked outside. We didn't try the food, but the Beer was great! Try the Porter!!

At first glance, the Beer Deviner looks a little rough from the outside, but the place is anything but that. Instead the place is fun, friendly, and collegial where everybody talks to each other (even strangers coming in for the first time). The beer is off-the-scale fresh and tasty - I would say excellent! They have a wide variety of beers from the exotics to the ales and they even have hard cider that is really good. They don't have a wide selection of food yet, but are working on expanding the menu and hope to have a kitchen sometime in the future. For now you can munch on the free peanuts they give you while you're enjoying 'a brew or two'. John, Emily and Keegan are the best and Emily really knows her beers for sure.
