Just north of Indian Lake, the hike to the top of Sawyer Mountain is just one mile each way, and the view at the summit is glorious. There are also chipmunks up there who would like to steal your lunch, so be wary of these vicious creatures! :-)

We hiked back in to Cedar Lakes last Friday for a three-day camping trip, which was magnificent! The woods and the lakes and the overall wilderness appeal is beyond belief, and maintained as a secret to those who are familiar with its mountainous lands. We saw only 10 people the entire weekend, and were serenaded by deer, loons, owls, and more throughout the weekend. We stayed in Cedar Lakes lean-to #2 over the weekend, and enjoyed every moment, even through the rain and the cold. (It was in the low 30s, so dress up if you want to visit.) There is no place in the world like the Adirondack, so don't pass up a chance to visit and enjoy.

The Adirondack mountains can be found in the north country of New York State. A vast wonderland in all seasons, with something for everyone! This review is for the summer. If you are looking to get away from the crowds and noise and spend some time communing with nature or the elements, then look no more, the ADK's are an amazing option.Adventure in summer, may include the mighty Hudson, where rafting trips are great fun. Wether you want a more personal experience, like Square Eddy or a bigger group setting like Beaver Brook Outfitters, the adventures are awesome! If you are a paddler with experience bring your boat and get a Paddler's Guide to the Adirondack region and create your own adventures. (i use a Hornbeck 10ft carbon and kevlar canoe weighing in at 14lb to make portages easier.) On most of our paddles we will see several different animals including, beaver, otter, mink, deer, Great Blue Herons, Eagles, Hawks, bear and moose ( the latter, less seen). In addition to animals, the wild flowers are magnificent!Refined Adventures may include Lake George, and Lake Champlain, where water activities can be arranged and lodging ranges from one star to four star elegance, with culinary delights and something for everyone. (Great Escape, water parks and Martha's highlight this area). The Ausable Chasm, Bartons Garnet Mines, and the Pottersville Stone Bridge and Caves provide hands on fun for the whole family. If you just want to drive around and experience a little Adirondack Culture, well look to Long Lake, Indian Lake, Saranac Lake and visit towns like Chestertown, Keene, North Creek and Bolton Landing.Brilliant hikes and climbing routes can be easily found with trails maintained and marked by the rangers.The ADKs are great place to find your inner kid and play hard, sleep soundly and get back to nature.P.S. I haven't even talked about the beautiful change of colors in September or winter sports with thrills for everyone!

We stayed here, address Cold Brook, NY, and had upgraded to a cabin as it was extremely soggy when we got there. They were very welcoming and the scenery was spectacular! We got up early to continue our journey from Arkansas to New Hampshire and the whole experience of driving through the Adirondack mountains was a beautiful experience. Most people have heard about the Adirondacks but few have been there. Imagine over 6.5 millions acres of protected land with smart development in small towns throughout the park.It is a great combination of protected lands with access to homes and businesses in the small towns spread throughout the park. There are so many activities to do here that you could spend a lifetime here and never exhaust them. From hiking, biking, boating, fishing, water skiing, mountain biking, zipling, swimming, to downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, skating, snowshoeing, ice fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and many, many other activities. This a truly a year round place that can keep you occupied all the time and is also a hidden gem.

While I was stationed in NY last year, I made several trips to the Adirondacks to hike some of the 46ers. The trails range from driving to the top of Whitehead, to a full day of mostly bush-whacking. There's so much green everywhere, and the park has no admission!I thoroughly enjoyed day hiking to the top of Mt. Marcy and back from the Garden Parking lot trailhead! There are also plenty of areas for camping there :)I recommend staying at the Keene Valley Hostel, near the Roostercomb trailhead. I think it was only about $20-$25 a night, the hosts live across the yard and are incredibly nice and informative, you'll more than likely meet some wonderful people, and the common areas are excellent.

I spent the day in the Adirondack Park yesterday, which it someplace I rarely visit in the winter months. The Adirondacks are just as pretty during the winter months as in the summer; stark mountains stabbing into a wonderfully blue sky, snow-covered spruce trees and magically-white snow-covered lakes. This entire area is huge, gorgeous, and thankfully underutilized. I'm almost glad that many people, even among New Yorkers, do not know of its raw beauty and grandeur. (That leaves more for us!) There are also lots of winters sports to be enjoyed here. I can't wait to come back up with my ice fishing rig!

The Adirondack State Park is just gorgeous. It's also massive, and you could spend weeks in the area and never do the same thing once. I highly recommend the area for camping, hiking, just being outdoors, or out on the water. I really think that everyone in and around New York State should come in and experience this hidden gem. It's really a humbling place to experience.

i like that it is a secret.i hate that dollar general wants to tear down an historic building to construct an ugly piece of crap.

Any of the four seasons in the Adirondack Park are simply beautiful. Take your pick of your favorite season and go enjoy. There is plenty to do in anyone of them. I love the summer months when the lakes are wide open and the breeze is blowing. The views are simply breath taking from any one of the many lakes throughout the park.

We just spend three days by the shore of Cranberry Lake with our family reunion - 4 kids and 6 adults. We had an absolute blast sailing, rowing and hiking up 'Big Bear Mountain' . It was great fun for all of us and we can't wait to come back for longer!

6 million acres of pure quiet & peacefullness with so much to do Spring Winter Fall & most of all Summer

Looking for that perfect place for a winter getaway? Look no more, the Adirondack (ADK) region is complete with snow covered fun! Just enjoyed two feet (61 cm) of powder and hours of snowshoeing and cross country skiing (unfortunately had to avoid Gore and White Face during the holiday blitz.)What makes this NY state gem so special are the well maintain trails and signage.The NYS Park Services do an amazing job 12 months a year. So be sure to help them out, by observing all the rules and regulations while in the park. Be sure to sign in at the trail head. IN WINTER BE PREPARED, all paths REQUIRE snowshoes or cross country ski's to navigate. Do read up on winter adventures and how to prepare for inclement weather. Most of all, review published information on current trail conditions. If it's your first adventure choose a well marked path that is well travelled, for your own safety. Be sure to dress in layers, avoid cottons that retain moisture, pack water and snacks like granola bars and a safety kit. More advanced skiers, ice climbers and adventurers will find the challenging conditions make the park a winter wonderland. aMany local small towns with B&B's and places to stay and some winter camping.SOME parts of the park have fees, but most areas are open to the public.Looking for groomed trails (at a price) for alpine, tele, and cross country fun? Check out Gore Mountain, White Face and Garnet Hill.

This park is so big, needed to keep coming back for it. It was my 2nd time in the park for Fall colour. My hotel was outside of the park, the hotels in the park did not offer much value during the Fall time. A Must Place for Fall Colour People!

I leave from Western New York and head east. I love to spend the first day at the Finger Lakes Race Track and have leisurely dinner at one of the great restaurants in Cananduiga and relax by the lake. Next morning continue on, maybe stop at the outlet stores near Geneva or divert to the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Enjoy the lovely rural scenery of New York State, the Erie Canal, then head up the I-87 northway. Stop at Saratago for lunch in that lovely town then into Lake George. There are so many beautiful small lakes to discover in that area. New York State is a beatiful state to travel, more rural and scenic that people think
