Such a magnificent collection of art displayed in a beautiful old home mixed and mingled with the new. Visited on a free Sunday and enjoyed the Adirondack art on loan from the Blue Mountain Museum. This is truly a not to be missed place.

All the greats in a hometown setting. Friendly knowledgeable staff in a relaxed environment. Gives you a greater appreciation for the generosity of a past generation sharing a private collection. Periodic additions and special displays warrant many return visits.

I find the Museum and Home well worth the effort. From time to time the Hyde provides art work from around the States and from that it gets a Very Good review.

Always a treat to visit the Hyde and the collection or special exhibit. The permanent collection is wonderful. The collection is well presented and it isn't too onerous to enjoy every floor of the house. The collection is eclectic, so there is something for everyone including children--even if just to walk through the "house" and see the layout with great art, books, sculpture that people actually lived with. The docents and museum staff are knowledgeable and passionate--all good. The latest Anne Diggory instillation was very interesting, trending, and a nice bridge between the special collection on tour and the permanent collection. (see Annediggory.com)After visiting the Hyde, downtown has some wonderful little cafe's and restaurants to visit we often stop at the Gourmet Cafe following a Hyde visit.

This is a lovely little museum. The existing collection is eclectic and interesting. The staff at the front desk was extremely personable and helpful. The security staff was a bit abrupt and rude, but not enough to spoil the visit.

We traveled up the thruway to Glens Falls to visit this little gem. It was terrific and well worth going a little off the beaten path to find.

The museum was recommended by an artist friend. When entering, I asked if photography was permitted, and if carrying my backpack was OK. I proceeded to enter with my camera in a small backpack, which I carried in my hand. A staff member was walking through the museum, approached me demanded to know why I had the backpack, told me that backpacks were not permitted, spoke in a confronting and threatening manner. I was aghast. I apologized, told him that the attendant at the enterance to the galleries said it was OK and I would immediately go to the entrance and check the pack. He scowled at me, then MARCHED me to the front of the museum, where he was told by the attendant that he did, in fact, permit me to enter with the pack, but thought it was OK. As the staff member was freaking out at the attendant. No other staff member was interested in helping me. I suppose they thought the way I was treated was acceptable. I left. Didn't want to renter the museum because I didn't know what would be next, and it was clear that I wasn't wanted there. I felt treated like a criminal. THESE ARE NASTY PEOPLE. STAY AWAY.

Great art in an amazing home. The art is great, but so is the story of the family building the home to house the art. It is fascinating to imagine people living among these amazing works! Really something to behold in our little neck of the woods.

Our docent led tour of the Hyde home and museum was fascinating. The collection is surprising. The mansion is beautifully designed, furnished and filled with wonderful pieces of art. The courtyard is reminiscent of that of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The special exhibit of American Art was well presented.

A wonderful collection of paintings and other manifestations of artistic, creative elegance. I didn't expect to find Rembrandt and Picasso in a small upstate NY town. This was well worth the stop.

We visited the Hyde Collection and it was truly a gem. The collection is world-class, with Rembrandt, Reubens, Renoir, Picasso, El Greco, etc., etc. represented. The fact that the collection is displayed in the Hyde’s home, with their furniture (many pieces of which were antique masterpieces in their own right) made it much more intimate than a traditional gallery setting. Plus, you could get so close to the paintings and not have to jockey for position with tons of other people. The day we were there, the museum was also exhibiting art by a rather avant garde artist who made shadow art from light hitting bent metal. That was a great time, and it was a treat seeing something so contemporary juxtaposed with the old masters. The only place where the Hyde fell short was in the gift shop. We would’ve bought some stuff, but there really wasn’t much there. When all is said and done, a few hours at The Hyde Collection can hold its own with a few hours at any fine art museum in the world.

Can see why so many reviewers call this a gem. Certainly is! Historic home, lovely garden, world-class art collection in historic mill town. Edward Hopper & friends exhibit astounding.

We had a day in Glens Falls, NY without any specific plans. A pleasant walk from our B&B brought us to this amazing museum. The collection included fine examples of Northern Renaissance works through the early 20th century all in situ in the Hyde House. The gallery reserved for temporary exhibits featured works by Larry Kagan. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again if in the area.

The Hyde has three small exhibit rooms for rotating exhibits. I went because they advertised Edward Hopper. It was nice, as were the other two temporary exhibits. But it was the house and the permanent collection which surprised me. Incredible!!

On a rainy day during our vacation, we decided to stop in at the Hyde Collection. WOW! we were totally and completely blown away with the art work and the house. Plus the entire family was enthralled by the Larry Kagan exhibit. Spent a delightful 1 1/2 hours wandering around.
