We went fishing on Capt Lou's fishing boats this summer and while we were there we heard about there seal watching cruises in the winter ! Well we gave it a try last weekend. Wow ! I couldn't believe how many seal we saw ! I never even knew they were there ! The Boat was nice and warm and the nice galley lady served us some nice fresh hot coffee and hot chocolate for the kids. The Naturalists from the Riverhead were very informative I think my kids even learned a thing or two about the behavior and the biology of the seals. Highly recommended ! Worth the Money !
FamilyTripTips
Went out on the trip on a frigid New Year's day. Boat left on time and had about 30 passengers, mostly parents with kids, but some couples without children.About 1/2 hour into trip we began to see the seals and once we hit the Jones Beach area the seals were plentiful. The staff was knowledgeable as they are volunteers from the Riverhead Foundation. Two tips: (1) Groupon has a $25 for two or $49 for four tix. You save 1/2 off the regular price. (2) Dress warmly as the inside of the boat is well heated, but the outside and second deck is windy and exposed to the elements. You can see Ok, from inside, but the best spot for pictures is on the deck.
