This hike can be a challenging hike back for some as it is steep. The view of the falls is excellent. It is best after a good rain. Can be slippery as you cross over the falls to continue on the trail to get a good view point. You can continue around Sams Point and enjoy the ice caves, a ridge hike, loop hike or connect to the AT. Parking fee applies.

Hiked up there from the other side as a child in July. Following the stream back which lead to the falls was a crystal clear icy pool among the rocks. It was surrounded by Mountain Laurel and wild blueberries. What a fairy tale site it was. About 20 year later, I took a group of friends and our families with me going up the back way I had done, but we were blocked by barbed wire, men with rifles and German Shepards. We then went to Sam's Point and hiked along the top through the scrub to get there. Since it was a particularly dry spell there was not much of a pool. I wonder if the pool exists today or not? It was so refreshing to cool off after a long hot hike up rocks etc. to get to the top of the falls and the pool.

I'll always have very fond memories of VerKeerderkill Falls, especially since I got engaged here! This place is just breathtaking and as the sign near the falls says, 'one of the last beautiful places in the world.' The hike to the ice caves is really fun with lots of crevices and ladders. It's really cool to go during the summer and see just how cold it stays down there. I couldn't imagine going in the winter, though. The hike to the falls is a bit rough since there's so many jagged rocks. You have to be careful not to slip or hurt yourself. During the rainy season there's some small ponds that form and you can definitely hear the rushing falls as you approach. Once at the falls, set up a picnic and just enjoy the view. It's really peaceful! Overall: I love this place!

Watch your step on the path to this hike, there are a lot of rocks. Bring a lot of water. It is simply beautiful. Sit on the rocks and just marvel at its beauty.

A nice hike to the falls. The view of the falls is worth the hike. Plan to take lots of pictures. There are excelent views of the Wallkill valley along the way too. There is a nice rock ledge at the falls to sit and rest and have a snack.

It was unfortunate that when we arrived, the office staff where you pay for parking was "out to lunch." If someone was available to ask how the falls were on that day, we would have chosen the ice cave hike instead. The "Falls" was actually down to a trickle. However, I did enjoy the hike along the way. I didn't do the ice caves hike this day, but the Verkeederkill Falls hike would benefit from having "distance to falls" markers along the way. My party, as well as all the parties we passed on the hike back from the falls, kept asking us, "how much farther is it?"

The falls are a treat for photographers as you can see it from both sides ( Left and Right) the stream that feed the waterfall is equally stunning. The hike to the falls is a nice hike about 2 miles. We prefer taking the High Point Trail it's longer much more spectaculer. Downside of the falls is that it can get busy, and in the summer it can become a trickle.

The falls are very nice and large. It was a great place to eat lunch and have a break. Although wear plenty of bug spray because bugs tend to be in this area.

Of all the waterfalls I have seen - this one has no rail or any safety structures for hikers/ tourists. You can actually stand/sit at the end of the cliff at your own risk looking down the bottom of that fall.- it's amazing, because it does not have all this artificiality of a park (like Niagara eg) The trail will lead you to the originating point of the waterfall at the top where you can observe it from two opposing points. There's also a way to go all the way down and look at it from the bottom (we saw people there) but the only way to get there is through the bushes down the slope - there's no trail. Unfortunately, we didn't go but we will next time for sure. Highly recommended!
