My husband and I attended an art opening in the Windows of Change Gallery at the Tahawus Lodge Center on Main Street. The gallery is the result of the first phase of renovation to the grand lodge located on the AuSable River, a beautiful and intimate space with large windows to provide a glimpse for Main Street traffic. The Center founders were engaging and friendly and have, undoubtedly, created a hub for community activity and a venue for village and area residents to join hands for common causes. As a resident of a nearby village, I cannot say enough about the beauty and enchantment of the Adirondack wilderness and the number of recreational activities at our doorstep.

We visited Au Sable Forks in August of 2010 to see the work in progress at the Tahawus Lodge Center, a Masonic Lodge being renovated as an Arts Center through the sweat equity of many local volunteers, Appleby Foundation, and Rebecca Kelly Ballet. The dance company has a long history in the Adirondacks and its directors envisioned this transformation and have effectively given life to this new use.It was nothing short of miraculous to see how the old Lodge was emerging from years of diminshed use with airy rooms and windows framing beautiful Adirondack scenery. Since our visit, the Windows of Change Gallery has hosted an art opening in January, and artists are being welcomed to exhibit.May it continue and thrive! While off the beaten track, this corner of the Adirondacks is WELL WORTH a visit!
