I've been on this trail a bit while visiting my son and his wife, and it always is a great way to see a sunrise or sunset. The mountain biking here is not too tough, so anyone can enjoy it, and as the world's worst technical mountain biker, I can attest to this. As a hike, there's some pretty stuff to see, and the views are great. Not strenuous, and an avid hiker is going to head up to the hills around Silverton, but as great way to get a little walk in, this is a great trail.

Very scenic views of the town, the mountains, and even met a little deer in the parking lot. Got some great pictures.

You can drive up to Fort Lewis College and sit around the edge of the trail (there are benches in several spots) and watch the sun set on the mountains and Durango below. It was so pleasant, we actually went up 2 nights in a row. We have fairly little kids, so we didn't actually hike the trail, just enjoyed the view. It's a quick drive up to the college. The campus was gorgeous around sundown. We saw families of deer everywhere and even spotted a rainbow!

A short, steep, narrow trail from 5th street up to the Fort Lewis College campus...Beautiful views of town and the mountains...IF you go at night definitely take a flashlight and strongly suggested as well is a hiking staff. A good place to watch the 4th of July fireworks...

this is a great ride with plenty to see and a mountain bike park at the top to practise your skills!

You can hike up the Nature Trail which starts at the corner of E. 6th Avenue and 10th Street in Durango. At the top of the nature trail, you will be right beside the Ft Lewis campus chapel and the view is to die for!! Or, if you aren't up for a 20 minute hike, just drive up to the Fort Lewis Chapel and enjoy the view of town!

The trail systems in Durango are outstanding, and this particular one is great for both mountain biking and hiking. The views of the town are awesome at the top.

A beautiful hike from 5th Avenue to the top of the Rim close to Fort Lewis campus...wonderful views of the town, some steep, narrow ledges to negotiate...

Close to town, easy to find and WOW what views! Nice for a bike ride or a walk/hike on the road or trail. Bring a snack and water if you're on foot. I biked it and it was almost better to walk as I was stopping often. Worth the time to check out

If you have a car while in Durango, take the time to drive the Rim Road and stop along the way to soak in the amazing vistas. the college itself is quite pretty and the grounds are gorgeous.
