Roxborough State Park is a gem that is just south of Chatfield reservoir that everyone who lives in the Denver area should put on their "must see" list. The Park has a wonderful theatre which shows a short film documenting the history of the Park. You should view this before picking out which trail to hike on.

Some accident of geography and microclimate created this natural wonder. What a beautiful place to spend some time hiking and experiencing nature. Have sunscreen and water for sunny summer days, and be aware that dogs are not allowed.

Oct 2014.... I never knew this trail was there. Went with two friends, and it was so beautiful. The views from the top, you weave in and out of trees and open areas. we are active people so this was comfortable, one of our friends was not used to that altitude, so he needed more breaks. We made it to the top and the view was worth it. Be prepared with food, water, poles. They say watch out for snakes and mountain lions OH MY. Just be prepared. There is a park cost to gain entry. The lady at the visitors center was so sweet. Highly recommended this hike for anyone locals or tourist. Well worth it.

Beautiful setting tucked away not far from the city. Easy hikingtrails and the views are spectacular...

Carpenter Peak hike taken with several families of various ages (7-50's) and stages of ability. The views and wild life from beginning to end are like no other. The reward for your hike is the most amazing view to the west of the continental divide as far as the eye can see and to the north east best view of Denver. Take plenty of water and take plenty of rest. Be ware of the changing weather conditions toward the afternoon in the spring through fall time. It' s one of the best kept secrets of Denver. Also if less strenuous and still lovely views take the South Rim trail. Can be done in less than an hour if trail conditions are good. Take time to enjoy the rock formations.

Beautiful spectacular park. Fun Hiking but no dogs. Small well done museum. Located near Denver. Great photo opportunity especially at twilight.

Easy hike to the top of Carpenter Peak. You can limit your stay to the visitor center, it's that beautiful and don't hike if you are feeling less ambitious.

Have spent a good amount of time in Roxborough hiking with family and friends. In addition, I've volunteered here with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado maintaining the trails. There is good opportunity to see wildlife. I've never found the park crowded even though it is close to the city. Certainly a great place to pack a lunch and spend an afternoon enjoying the gorgeous Colorado weather.

Located near to Denver; convenient. An oasis in the suburbs. Good hiking but watch out for snakes in the summer! Good interpretative museum if a bit small. Helpful volunteers.

We did the Fountain Valley hike. Great hike and not too hard - I am really out of shape - but the views were awesome.

Nestled between spectacular rock formations in the Dakota Hogback, in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, this is a delightful place to visit. Besides the scenery, which makes for great photos especially in the early morning and late afternoon, one can enjoy seeing many kinds of wildlife in their natural settings.

This is a terrific hike, not too steep. It has places that are shaded and you catch some awesome views.

This State Park is amazing with its grandios rock formations, wildlife and trail system. Any time of year you will be completely excited by the beauty and variety of what this park has to offer. A nice visitors center has opportunity for learning and adding information, as well as shelter and a wonderful picnic area.

Do not enter the park unless you are into hiking, and if so there are miles of great trails thru the park, but it costs. We paid just before 4 in the afternoon and the visitor center closed before we could see it, guard never told us that, wasted entrance fee. Drove to the golf course/development behind the hog-back, told the guard we were going to the golf course, did drive in and saw the rocks from the parking lot, then back at the main/divided road continued north, curves west, the south around the gold course. continue to the end of the straight road, on your left for over a mile in the afternoon are the beautiful red rock formations with the sun on them. Viewing is great at no cost, the park itself is better in the morning for only viewing. This used to be the old entrance into the park, right at where the new guard shack is a but closed off by the developert. I do not believe that the guard can stop you from visiting, sightseeing, or checking out houses for sale, since the end of that road is a public access/parking area for walking into the park at no cost.

Nice hiking trails, amazing views. You can watch for animals around, overlook Denver skyline or just walk around the park. I love going there!
