Not your usual museum,a skimming of unique automobile history,in one of the most beautiful places in Colorado, that most people don't see!Not on the "beaten path" but a wonderful drive from either way!

This place is so cool. The cars in this place are pretty amazing. If you are in the area this is a must.

And I'm a car guy, been to a lot of museums but this one may top them all with it's unique collection placed in 'galleries' of relevance to time and place. So if your connection is very early automotive transportation, the art cars of the Cord era or muscle cars of the 60's, they're here. The centerpiece is a Detroit Autorama one-of-a-kind 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 Concept Car designed by GM and supposedly crushed ... but purchsed by the owner of Gateway a few years ago for, at the time, a record price for any car - anywhere. That car alone is worth the trip as it showcases 'what could have been' if the F88 had competed with the Corvette for American sports car dominance.

With more than 50 cars this collection is worth more than $30 million. One of the biggest collections we have ever seen

I've visited a couple of other car museums but this was an exceptionally impressive collection and so nicely presented! Each car was displayed clearly so you could walk around them and usually look inside and with a writeup about its history. Not to be missed and worth the scenic drive over to see!

The museum is located in a resort in Gateway Colorado. It's pretty much in the middle of no where and you need to like high desert which is what you'll see on the drive there. The grounds at the resort are beautiful with a large variety of trees, flowers and colorful shrubs.Even if your not a car buff it is worth a visit. They have a brief introductory film then you go at your own pace. Wish I would have counted how many cars they have, but I didn't. They are all just gorgeous and most include something to read about the history of the car. They also have lots of vintage maps and other things car related i.e. gas pumps, tools, etc. Admission is $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for seniors 65 and over. Would definitely recommend a visit.

I mean it you have to come and see this place, they have a beautiful resort with excellent room and 2 very nice restaurants. But the car museum is AMAZING. They have the only 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 in existence..Every car is one of a kind matching number piece of history. Cars that you may have never seen before and probably never will anywhere else, every car in perfect show room condition. From the F-88 to a 1906 Cadillac a 1932 Boattail Auburn, and a one of a kind Big D... and the museum is only $15 each.....

We 'found' this museum last year and couldn't wait to return bringing our friends with us. The red rock scenery surrounding the museum and hotel is breathtaking. As you enter the museum, you recognize the wall coverings as the covers of antique road maps. All of the vehicles displayed are in pristine condition and the interiors as well as the exteriors sparkle. At the center of the museum is a special room that has the 1984 Motorama F-88 Oldsmobile. It's on a turntable in the center of the room so you can see it from every angle. In the gift shop there is a book of area pictures taken by John Hendricks as well as his biography. Both are well worth their purchase price.

OK, so last week we made a sweep through western Colorado to take in a couple of auto museums. Second up, after the (disappointingly tacky) Allen Unique Autos collection, was the Gateway Auto Museum, about 60 miles southwest of Grand Junction, CO.The drive alone was worth it. Stunning scenery, twisty curves and blazing red rock formations greeted us along the hour and 15 minute cruise. Had there been no museum, that drive alone would have been most memorable. But, there was a museum. And what a museum! Founder John Hendricks (Discovery Channel) has created an incredibly high end venue in which to display his rolling works of art. The building itself is a work of art. It’s every bit the equal of my former favorite auto museum, the incredible Blackhawk Collection of Danville, CA.Hendricks has made it a point to acquire only the best of the best of the best, and then provide a dramatic setting, with perfect lighting, for each one. Each car has a story, and many are very significant examples of their marque, like the ’70 Hemi Cuda that was Number Two off the line on the first day of production. Or, the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible, as original and pristine as the day it hit the sales floor, which has only about 700 original miles on it. The wonderful 1937 Hudson Terraplane Convertible Coupe is one of very few known to exist. The centerpiece of the entire museum is the incredible 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 Convertible Concept Car.In 1954 this F-88 was a Motorama “Dream Car” and was one of only two complete – with an unconfirmed possible two ‘shells’ – ever created. This F-88 is literally the only car left of its kind and was acquired at the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona for a stunning auction record $3,240,000. This car is so special that Hendricks built an entire gallery just for it, with its own rotating display, overhead mirrored ceiling, and period documentation. A video of the auction plays in the gallery. This is a true one-of-a-kind automobile, rich with history, and is worth the trip all by itself. That is NOT to say that the other autos aren’t also stunning. My favorite color combination was on the fabulous 1929 Packard 645 Deluxe Eight Convertible Runabout, presented in a mouthwatering Orange and Cream. I could almost taste the Orange Creamsicle I so loved in the 50s. It was all I could do to keep from drooling all over the Packard.Around every corner, in every gallery, there were surprising, amazing, captivating works of automotive art. This museum is worth the trip all by itself. Never mind that we had friends and family to visit, and a car convention to attend in Colorado Springs. This was the highlight of the trip.Put it on your bucket list. Now. You’ll be glad you did.Dean Herrington

I'm not much of a car person, but this place made me one :) It is a beautiful museum with cars for every taste.

We visited the Gateway Auto Museum to see the Oldsmobile F-88 (one and only in the world for $3.24 million) and were thrilled with that and the other great cars from the past. It is a most beautiful museum. The drive to Gateway, Colorado, has most spectacular scenery of red rock. We are thrilled with our entire visit!

If you want to see examples of great automotive history, this is the place to go. Each one was in mint condition, and you were able to observe close up. Entry fee was very reasonable, $10 for seniors. Models covered the time from the Duesenbergs and Pierce Arrows on up to the later models of better known cars. Would like to go back again, and spend more time there. A good place to visit even if you are not a car buff.

I never was much into cars but the automobiles in this museum were outstanding. The next time I visit I'm going back to the museum and spend a lot more time looking at the cars.

$15 per adult. $10 for seniors. Kids up to 12 free. Cost is kind of high but has some awesome cars. Also has the F-88 only one that exists in the world. $3.24 million dollar car.
