The fabulous architecture of the buildings on the Sewanee campus provide a marvelous setting for a walk in the small university town. The chapel is both grand and lovely. I especially enjoyed the colors of the sunlight falling into the interior through the beautiful stained glass windows. We have enjoyed two short stops at the University of the South in recent years. A trip to stay at the inn on the university campus and walk the local trails would be especially nice in the spring or fall.

I wasn't sure what to think when my daughter decided she wanted to visit as a prospective college to attend. The campus is beautifully set amongst the rolling Tennessee hills about 1.5hours out of Nashville. The architecture is amazing and my daughter kept referring back to Harry Potter in describing the buildings. The history surrounding the university is equally amazing. From the civil war to modern day the history is present. While the overall campus is quite large the academic buildings and other facilities are quite close to eachother which makes walking around campus easy. If you want a quiet reflective walk in the woods a nice 20 mile hike starts a few feet from campus. It will be great to visit again if our daughter decides to attend the university of the South.

Magnificent neo-Gothic architecture perched on a plateau in the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee. Founded in 1857, the university's architecture and academics were modeled after Oxford University in England. Stunning views from the mountain top.

You have to really want to get there. And, once you do, you realized just how well worth the trip it is. It is extraordinary.

If you enjoy walking through history, educational, political, religious, civil war, then the University of the South is a great place to spend a day. It has the feel of Oxford (with the architecture). Its an easy walk around the campus. The entire land mass is referred to as "The Domain" (13,000 acres, the 2nd largest land mass campus in the US. The University of the South AKA Sewanee and the town of Sewanee, TN offers an abundance of interesting hikes, including a complete circumnavigational trail that I believe is approx 20 Miles. There is a beautiful golf course on the campus and a number of great restaurants in the town and/surrounding community. Bike rentals are available at Woody's Bike shop. If you are on a Motorcycle, I would HIGHLY recommend the ride over to Lynchburg, TN and a great sunset beverage back in Sewanee at "The Tavern" or "Shenanigans". Ask around, there are some great dinner spots...Ivy Wild, Mountain Goat Market (Breakfast or Lunch or picnic), Pearls, High Point (My favorite, high end dinner spot...VERY QUAINT and GOOD).

Look no farther. Here you have it all. Top rated academically, one of the most expansive campuses anywhere, insulated from sprawling urbanism, small classes, great facilities, a miniature Oxford on the Cumberland plateau. This is where this Ivy Leaguer would apply if he had (the luxury) to do it over again.

The University of the South is a tourist attraction due to its beautiful stone buildings. The college is also an excellent liberal arts college. Visit in the fall or spring for best foliage--visit anytime to enjoy the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Drive thru on University Avenue, spend a few fall moments walking across campus, walk a trail or two thru the 13,000 acre campus on the Cumberland Plateau and one can easily understand why Sewanee was named the most beautiful college campus in America. The Domain, the Order of the Gown, the Mountain, the Angels, the Potter-esque feel to the experience make this a top consideration, if not top choice for college.

The campus is beautiful with all the stone buildings. The Chapel is beautiful with stained glass windows. In the foyer the stain glass windows tell the story of the school and chapel.

Sewanee and the University of the South is what I like to call the 'perfect day trip'. Two or three times a year, I make the trip from Nashville to Sewanne to escape the city and enjoy nature. Pack your hiking gear, drive around campus to enjoy the architecture and take off on two great trails at the end of Tennessee Blvd, near the middle of campus. At the end you'll find a giant white cross and two trails; one to the left and one to the right. I recommend the right trail with it's variable terrain, waterfalls, scenic overlooks and not to mention a decent workout. The trail left of the cross is more casual of a walk through the woods but also lovely. When you're done with both trails, check out the small cafes and restaurants at the end of campus, several have organic options and fresh veggies. Enjoy!

I'm biased, of course, as an alum, but this campus continues to leave me awestruck. Great stop for folks headed from Nashville to Chattanooga or -- obviously -- on a college-visiting trip in the area. The University is incredibly quaint and Hogwarts-like. My 14-year old son, who -- because he's 14 -- didn't want to like the campus, was enthralled by the architecture and the layout of the school. Don't miss this gorgeous, one-of-a-kind campus!

We recently rented a cabin in Monteagle to celebrate a birthday. Visiting Sewanee was at the to of our list of things to do and it was absolutely worth it. Visiting All Saints' Chapel was my favorite part. We didn't take an official tour, but they had pamphlets out that explained the church with a diagram of the different areas. Just breathtaking. So much beauty and history contained in one place! Secondly, I recommend seeing the cross on the hill erected in memory of Sewanee alumni who have served in our military. Beautiful view there, as well. This village is a must-see if you are visiting the area!
