While we were in Harrison, TN visiting friends. We decided to play a round of golf at Bear Trace. They had just aerated the course. So the greens were not in the best shape. But we still had a very good time. They only thing that didn't make any sense to me was, we were not allowed to take the cart to our truck to pick up our clubs or drop them off after playing 18 holes. There must have been some mishap in the parking lot, to not allow golfers to take the carts to their vehicle. Other than that, the folks were very friendly!

I have played at least a dozen Jack Nicklaus designs, and this is by far my favorite. The greens were as good as any I have seen in years and the overall condition of the course was exceptional. Difficulty factor was moderate from the next to the back tees, but the added length of the back tees would challenge anyone.

This is a great golf course designed by Jack Nickolaus. 18 holes of senic golf with a bonus of a pair of nesting Eagles right by the 10th green.

Great course, excellent layout for any golfer. Would recommend to anyone. Share your golf round with turkeys, geese, and deer all over the course. Bent grass greens were excellent, but fast. Not overpriced, good value.

While staying in Chattanooga for a week as part of our golfing tour of Alabama and Tennessee some local lads pointed out that one of the golf courses we should play was the Jack Nicklaus Bear Trace at Harrison Bay.So we took the recommendation and played.Firstly what a glorious location, located in Harrison State park on the banks of Lake Chickamauge, you could not ask for a nicer setting. It is a typical Jack Nicklaus design with reasonably generous fairways with open fronted greens and well located bunkering which make it a joy to play. However if you are not at your best and a bit off line then trouble can be found, be prepared to lose a few balls in the trees lining the fairways or in the number of water hazards stratically located around the eighteen holes, it is what I call a very fair Nicklaus design of risk and reward. To enhance the experience the course is very well maitained with nice undulating green of reasonable pace and in good condition. It is not your typical public course rates a little dearer but well worth it, so much so we played it twice. On a personnal issue the only improvement might be a GPS system on the cart, but that's me.I could not fault the golf course staff they were friendly and accommodating from the pro shop, bar catering to the green staff. All in all as good a test of golf as you will find for the money and during our visit the best course in the area along with Eagle Bluff.Dorsetdon.

My son and I play this course every couple of weeks during the year. It's a Very beautiful setting with many trees, abundant wildlife, and a few holes which border Lake Chickamauga. It's a Jack Nicklaus designed course and the layout is just perfect. Be prepared to lose a few balls as most holes are lined by trees on both sides. Rates are more than a municipal or basic run of the mill public golf course but its well worth it. The staff is also very friendly and accommodating. Their practice areas are very good as well. All in all, if you're looking for a great course to play while in Chattanooga, Bear Trace should be your pick.
