The Promise Land Historic Site provides a walking tour into the past. The historic 19th school building is restored as it was during the Reconstruction era when it provided a primary education for newly freed slaves and their children. There is a Civil War Trails Marker on the grounds demonstrating the community's relation to the Civil War. Also on the grounds is a historic church building that once served the residents of this hamlet established for the settlement of African-Americans following the Civil War. An annual festival is held at the site on the first weekend in June.
