The old joke goes "The food was awful but they give you lots of it". Whether breakfast or lunch food is country style.. that is overcooked meat rubber and dry and vegatables cooked beyond recognition. Give it a pass.

Hiking here is a treat. Best for, both of the worlds that interest me, a great place for exercise and great food after. The trails here follow a beautiful lake and the trails are moderate but scenic too. One caution. If it has rained recently, some parts of the trail can be muddy and slick. Wear the right shoes, hiking boots are best. Treat yourself to the lodge's buffet after you hike. It is very well done with many choices for you to choose from. The Lodge here is very nice also if you decide to stay a few days. For my wife and I it is a short hour's drive from our home in Hendersonville, Tn. It is a great destination if you are planning a day trip from anywhere here in Middle Tennessee. We hike these trails often and we always feel safe doing so. Try it and see for yourself.

This is a wonderful state park. The park rangers have activities for children. The food at the Inn is awesome. The town nearby, Dickson ,TN, has a great antique district. This is a treasure for anyone that wants to get to know the south!

My son had his wedding there. Beautiful place for a outdoor wedding. I have played golf there and it is a great course. The food is good and reasonable priced.

The landscape is so beautiful, they offer so many different activities. The lake is wonderful, you can rent bouts and paddle bouts. Golf in a gorgeous setting. You would be hard pressed to find a prettier place for a picnic or family outing. they have 4 covered pavilions that can be reserved for large get together s and a lot of uncovered picnic table spot that are 1 come, all are well placed through out the park. There is a place for RVing and camping overnight, and lots of hiking trails to choose from. And if you don't feel like cooking they have a large inn and restaurant in the park, overlooking the lake.

Really enjoyed water view room (almost all rooms have water view). Nice balcony. Didn't have chance to hit any trails, but plan to some day. Room has standard amenities. No micro fridge..so bring cooler) Buffet looked good but didn't buy since no choice to opt out of more expensive Saturday steak buffet ( dont care for steak). Very scenic. Nice staff.

for a public course it was really in nice shape- not overly long but the greens were very challenging- a lot of hard to read undulations-first time any of our foursome had played there and we all said we would come back

Had kind of forgotten about this little jewel for a while, but rediscovered it this year and have come back several times with friends and family. The park itself has a lot of hiking opportunities, a swimming lake, golf course and a nice camp ground. The campground is alongside a small creek which the kids and adults alike love to get into. The area is great for biking and can hold RV's, travel trailers, and tents. Restrooms are available and clean. A great place to vacation for a weekend or a couple of weeks. The city of Dickson is only 6 miles away (where there's a Wal-Mart). Great restaurants close by - Catfish Kitchen, Perfect Pig. Large open areas for group play or just put up a hammock and relax!

I recently visited Montgomery Bell State Park in Burns Tennessee with my wife and three year old daughter. Our original intention was to hike the 6 mile Northeast loop.... But with a 3 year old that is not always possible to stick to the plan. What we ended up doing was the 3 miles (1.5 there and 1.5 ) Wildcat Shelter Trail. The first probably half mile of the trail is an incline with very uneven terrain with lots of rocks my ankles and knees are not happy today. However it does even out and it is a fairly easy trail to hike to the shelter. The shelter itself is fairly unremarkable but right before it is a stream with several little falls and is fun to walk up and play in. I highly recommend getting a map when you get to the ranger station because the signage is not very clear. All in all it's about an hour drive from Nashville and we had a lot of fun.

We camped at this beautiful state park in a travel trailer over the Labor Day weekend. The park is crowded on holidays and the roads are narrow. The camping spots are level. No cable TV and no channels available with antenna. Lots of trees. Very scenic area.

We used to visit this park fairly often when we lived in Nashville, but never stayed at the campground until this month. The campground was super due to all of the mature trees that provided shade throughout most of the day. The staff was very friendly. We arrived on a Thursday and stayed ten nights. We stayed on the creek for eight of the ten nights and then moved to another site for the remaining two. The weekends were very busy, lots of families with children. The creek was popular with the kids for wading and fishing. There was a playground close by as well. There was an extensive program in the park for children under twelve from Thursday to Sunday. Our site, 119, was nice because there was plenty of room between us and our neighbor, unlike our second spot,105. Sites 113, 116 and 121 are also on the water and nice due to the green space between the site and the next camper. These sites all have sewer, water and electricity. It was nice during the week when there were far fewer campers. We rode all of the roads on bikes. It is a beautiful park and the hills provide a good workout. We used to mountain bike the trails designated for riding and they were excellent. Years ago, we used to hike or run the trails in the park on weekends and never got tired of them. There is a recreation area on the lake at the Inn where you can swim or rent several types of boats including paddle boats. We have stayed at the Inn in the past and the rooms were very basic. The food was cafeteria style food and not very good. A friend was staying there while we camped and he confirmed that that has not changed. The cabins are fantastic. We stayed with groups of friends several times in the past, most recently about two years ago.
