I was so excited to visit here as a fledgling genealogist. We were there on a weekend - Parking was a challenge, and I imagine it would be during the week, also. Everyone was very pleasant, and after a brief video/introduction, you are shown to a room full of computers and volunteers to help you in your search - so you are told.Well, during my couple/several of hours there, I had 4 or 5 volunteers and no one could help me even get logged onto the computer! (I was even willing to set up a new account.) My husband finally went to the car and brought my computer in - and still no luck. I think it is admirable that there are so many people willing to volunteer, but . . .it was frustrating to have no one that could solve the problem - and frustrating to leave with not one bit of info, just a headache!

This is pretty much Mecca for genealogists. Very helpful staff and very comfortable facility. I can hardly wait to go back.

A friend and I stumbled upon this while exploring on a break from research in the Family History Library. We were there last year and when we were there, we coincidentally met family members of people in one of the displays. There were fun learning areas set up for kids. I got a lesson on merging records from a very kind volunteer. As others have said, there is no religious pressure whatsoever. It's a fun place to visit for an introduction to family history or to learn more about the FamilySearch website.

The staff offered excellent sources of help and information. There were numerous workers who spoke many languages, if you need help with countries other than the US. Nothing disliked.... very efficient service rendered.

We spent about 2 1/2 hours here before heading to the airport to fly home. It was fascinating to work one-on-one with an experienced genealogist to look for information about ancestors. Everyone is SO friendly here!! Microfiche and films and web info galore....

What fun to take time to look up your "ancestors." The search area is very comfortable and the kind and patient guides are very helpful.

I had never done any geneaology research before and the volunteers helped immensely with getting the "feel" of how to do it. I was able to take those skills home and am currently obsessed with geneology!

From the moment I walked in the fron door I was given one-on-one guidance into the LDS family search facility and computer system. I was seeking specific information on an ancestor from the early 1800's and with the help of an experienced elder I was able to search the LDS files a nd access micro-films with the information that I was seeking. I've since used the LDS online search syst

The Family Search Center is one of the best in the West. You can find about anything you want here. I lived in SLC for 35 years and often took visiting friends and family to the Center to check their family tree.

It's really hard to describe my feeling after visiting family search center. With the help of the devoted staffs here, It's so funny for both of me and my son to know who were our great-great-great-great grandfather and his relatives at this time. Can't tell how happy we were to see the pictures available!

You don't have to be religious to enjoy the Family Search Center! If you were born, you can very likely plug into the vast computer databases to find out about your ancestors. The LDS Church spends millions a year to access birth, death, marriage and other family records for everyone. You don't have to be a Mormon to search your ancestors to appreciate who they are and who you are! From Ellis Island to Europe, the vast network of records is available to anyone who want to learn about their ancestors. Many visitors truly have WOW moments that they never forget as they find pictures, stories and records of ancestors they've never known of before! Familysearch.org too!

I had seen a presentation on the free LDS church familysearch.org, and was anxious to visit during a trip to Salt Lake City. Beginners are encouraged to visit this one (in the Joseph Smith building) before going to the more advanced location with the microfilms. Everyone was very helpful. One of the volunteers in the building took me over to the center and set me up with a FamilySearch volunteer, who spent lots of time with me and asked others for help if she was not sure about certain points. I had already set up an account at home (suggest you do this to make the most of your time) with a few items filled in.They took me through how to do searches, including their free links to pay sites like Ancestry.com This location is pretty much limited to what is available online, so I was not able to get to information from before our family's arrival in the US. However, I think I received a good foundation to continue my search at home.It turns out there are many local LDS family search centers, where you can probably get similar help and access to pay sites. But it was fun going to the central location.

This is an extraordinary centre. The people are enormously helpful and patient and attentive in helping you to research your ancestors. We found out so much that we didn't know and spent more than 3 hours there. I am still amazed by it all.

I'm curious to look for any history/records related to me, turned out nada. All of the data/records/history are collected by the churches or missionaries on duty. But really amazed how they set up this center, keeping those data in microfilm/soft files.
