bryce canyon visitor center

It's 4.5 miles south of the intersection of Hwy 12 & 63. Once you see the Bryce Canyon National Park entrance sign drive 1.5 miles and it will be on your right side. Ample paved parking is available. Relatively new, the structure is rustic wood and well maintained. The convenient free shuttle bus which takes you to various lookout points is about 50 feet outside the door so there is no great need to drive. The Visitor Center offers a full range of services. Weather forecasts, area lodging, dining and other area attractions, an up-dated Ranger activity schedule, Junior Ranger booklets, restrooms, bookstore/gift shop and backcountry permits are all available here. On the hour and 1/2 hour they show a 20 minute video entitled "Shadows of Time". The video is relatively new and has great video of the park in each season as well as geology and history. A small museum is packed with exhibits explaining local geology, wildlife (great taxidermy), star gazing opportunities and Historic and Prehistoric culture. During the winter Rangers give geology talks in the museum. I think visitor centers can be very helpful in defining what you are about to see in the park and this visitor center accomplished that mission.

My son-in-law had gotten a telescope for Christmas so we decided to get away from the bright city lights and head to Bryce Canyon. The sky there is beyond words.While visiting the Visitor's Center we found they offered an Astronomy Program on Saturday nights. (In the summer it is offered more often)The "Night Ranger" was great. He presented an hour long "history of astronomy" show in the center's auditorium. He was very knowledgeable and we really learned a lot.After the presentation he had a telescope set up in the parking lot. We were able to view many different things, most of which you would not be able to view many other places because of light pollution.Just a warning. It is cold in the winter! Come prepared with warm clothing.

Mi sono fermata per chiedere spiegazioni e sono stati veramente gentili. Mi hanno dato la mappa in italiano, spiegato bene cosa vedere, quanto tempo era necessario e se conveniva utilizzare la machina o prendere i loro bus. Servizio eccellente
