I came east from Castle Dale and found the unpaved road to be excellent for my new Chevy Sonic, along with clear Bureau of Land Management signage. The wedge overlook area has a primitive campground, picnic tables and (compostable?) toilet facilities, all on top of this canyon which is quite stunning. Back to the road to Buckhorn Draw, the rock art is right alongside the road with more BLM amenities - toilet, interpretation, donation box (I dropped in a good amount as I was so impressed!), picnic tables. This rock art is quite unique with the elongated figures, strange images (rain? snakes? dreams?), and I rate it alongside the Sego Canyon rock art. The canyon drive itself is full of reminders of Butch Cassidy outlaws, a little bridge, hiking trails, and more primitive campgrounds. This whole area north of the Interstate is full of rock art and I am pleased that even us with regular cars can access this region. I also did the Rochester art panel and Nine Mile Canyon. Couldnt get to the Sinbad's head art due to the rain puddles under that overpass - had no desire to get stuck!

It is a little bit out of the way, but much closer than the Grand Canyon for us. There is a paved road most of the way. Once you get to the Little Grand Canyon Overlook the dirt road starts. So if you push on to the Wedge overlook you may want a high clearance vehicle. I had to run ahead and throw several rocks off the road so our minivan could continue on. In my opinion, the view from the wedge is no better than from the Little Grand Canyon Overlook sign, but it is a different & unique perspective since the ravine is on two sides. There are no fences, barriers, running water, restrooms, etc... Be prepared for primitive. We saw places to camp, trails to walk or bike, but we were there just for a few pictures and to enjoy the view. My oldest son and I did hike down and out to one spot for pictures.
