Most things to see are very short hikes from the main road. The views across the valley back to Bryce are just great. Standing at the point on the Angel's Palace Trail was a real highlight of a trip that included the Grand Canyon and Zion. It was understandable visually for our children. Highly recommended.

We hit up Kodachrome after days in Bryce and Zion. This park was smaller, but far less crowded. We hiked to Shakespeare's Arch and the Angel Palace trail. Both were worth it. Easy hikes (we were thankful to rest a bit after some big hikes the prior two days) and we loved the change of scenery. The rocks and formations here are very different than anything we'd see so far. I really appreciated the Nature Trail with its ADA access (I have friends in wheelchairs so I'm always looking for ways to explore the outdoors with them!)

Having just left Bryce Canyon and heading off to Capitol Reef, my family and I decided to take a quick stop ~1,5hrs here. You do have to pay an entrance fee- $10 maybe?? it was a nice change of scenery firstly because there were NO crowds- we say maybe 10 ppl tops. Secondly, the park is known for its sedimentary pipes, which were just different to look at. What I found fascinating was that scientists don't really know how they are formed. It is nice to know sometimes that scientists don't know everything! We hiked the Angel's Palace Trail, which took us maybe 30 minutes. The view from the top was quite spectacular as we could see most of Kodachrome. The pictures I took while there are some of the prettiest ones I have from the trip, just because of the way the pure blue sky looked against the pipes and other rock formations. My conclusion: It was a nice stop and I am glad we went. However, if you are tight on time, I think it is something you could skip and not be missing too much. It is very nice to get away from the crowds, though. It would be a very peaceful place to camp at while exploring the area.

The scenery here is gorgeous. It is much smaller than most of the National parks, but the scenery and the hiking is just as impressive.

My wife and I were so glad we visited this park and met the awesome ranger there. The natural wonders are great, camping spots nice with hook ups and HOT showers for free!If anywhere in the area, stop by here and spend the night. You'll be glad you did.

Took a diversion to visit Kodachrome en route to Bryce. Even though it was Memorial weekend and the camping areas were busy, it was not that crowded in the park. Some fascinating rock formations; definitely worth a visit.

In mid-October I was checking out a lot of the smaller, lesser-known state parks in southern Utah. This one is definitely worth a visit and was a high-point of my trip. At this time of year, the park was very quiet - which really added to the quality of the visits. If you are an amateur photographer like me, you will really love this park

This was a lovely park. We stopped at the enterance station and got a recommendation for a lovely hike. The ranger was really nice. Hike was easy to moderate....just a couple of spots that were difficult. Nice views...more interesting Utah geology. We were late in the season so we could picnic in the group camp area that was not in use. Saw lots of birds...the beautiful blue ones. Very calm park too...not busy in late October. Met some folks who were really delighted with the camping.

We were in Bryce Canyon area for several days and decided to visit some of the state parks. We went to Kodachrome and were not disappointed. The drive there was great, little windy roads that were empty and took you through several small but quaint towns. The park itself was great because it was not crowded (we don't think ever gets too crowded), the Angel's Palace trail was great and not difficult. The park is off the beaten path, the rock formations were beautiful and overall we had a great time.

I got there late in the day which was perfect for pictures but limited how much I saw before it started to get dark and the campground was full. I hauled butt and saw some great vistas but more time would have been nice. See pix.

It has some nice trails. There are beautiful rock formats. The park appeared to have good camp grounds and picnic areas. Although we didn't use them. We just stayed for about 2-3 hours. It has small visitors center and a helpful staff.

Out of the crowds, off the beaten path but a great place for photographers. Very unusual rock formations. The ranger at the park was very friendly and helpful. We hiked the trail to the Shakespeare arch. Defintely recommend the trip to this park if you are in the area.

The rv park was a little off the beaten path and a little far away from our destination. However, the rangers were helpful and nice. The hikes were fun and not too long. We had a heavy thunderstorm and a heavy rain that caused flash flooding and washed out part of the bridge. A car drove into the river through the hole. The crews worked quickly to put in a temporary platform and we were evacuated in 45 minutes. Other than that it was a nice stay.

If you're in the Bryce Canyon area, don't miss Kodachrome Basin State Park. The formations are somewhat different than in Bryce, and it is much less crowded. We were there in the late afternoon, so we only had time for the angel's palace trail. Fantastic views of the formations, the valley, and the surrounding mountains. We also did the short nature trail. This park is a real gem.

Kodachrome is only a few miles in off the road but deffinately worth a trip. We did a side trip on the way over to Moab from Zion. I wish we could have camped there. Just behind the camp sites were beautiful road formations. Driving through the park on the dirt roads you can find some interesting scenery. THe campsite was incredibly clean. Lots of hiking trainls and seemed to be dog friendly.
