Beautiful and fun...when it is the heat of summer and early fall. Better yet, explore the Wallowa area and camp at Wallowa Lake. Impressive sculptures in Joseph, Washington...worth a trip.

Traveling through the canyons was spectacular. The views of the canyon walls with the river flowing along was definitely worth the trip. I would suggest the drive if you have time.

OARS and the guides did a great job for our family. 5 days and 4 nights. Kids had a great time, food was excellent, and rapids were perfect for our kids (Class II and III's). Water was a bit washed out so fishing was not great.

Plan on having lunch at an excellent little (the only one) German restaurant in Asotin. They close mid afternoon so plan on that. Food was authentic and outstanding. Ok, the drive is easy and pretty. Well worth it.

We rafted the Grand Canyon last year and this year chose to raft the Lower Salmon. This was a family trip with an 11 year old. To compare, the Grand Canyon was muddy cold water, blazing hot temps, and rocky outcrops to camp on. We truly enjoyed the scenery and geologic features of the GC but had a terrible guide - he did not get along with other staff, ran out of drinking water, and became inebriated on our last night... In contrast, the area we rafted on the Salmon River had water warm enough to swim in, clean enough to see the bottom, and wonderful sandy beaches to camp on. We selected OARs for our trip and had a marvelous time. The guides were friendly, had good rapport with one another (and others oarsmen they saw on the river), knew about the area, and generally made us feel very welcome. We had the opportunity to try out different kinds of craft (dory, oar paddle, kayak, SUP). The meals were oustanding for "camping." This was not our first rafting trip. So we were already aware of the considerations for such an excursion - camping out by the river, lack of restrooms, leave-no-trace requirements, limited bathing options... These are all items to research and consider if you have not taken an overnight rafting trip before or do not have other rustic camping experiences... If this is on your bucket list like me, what are you waiting for? I highly recommend it!

The canyons and the river were perfect for a traveling family. We loved it. We went with Hell's Canyon Raft company and were spared the work usually involved when we camp. The team that guided our trip was fantastic and perfect for our 12 and 14-year-old children. We would go back again.

Excellent area for all levels of outdoor activity. Fishing is a big highlight during certain times of year. Great photo oppurtunities.

We drove from Lewiston to Boise along the river and it was incredible -- one of the most beautiful rivers anywhere. We didn't have time to stop, but we'd like to return when we have more time.

It is an area unspoiled, filled with the natural beauty of Idaho. The river itself meanders through the state through small communities as well as the backcountry.

Sail from White Bird Idaho. 6 hour jey boat trip up to the dam and back. Excellent. Good guide, lots of info, comfortable jet boat, good lunch and provisions, reasonably priced. CAUTION: to get to thier launch point at Pittsburg Landing on the Snake is a hairy road that can take 45 minutes to cross 16 miles. Great if one is Ok with that type of road but keep in mind.
