This museum is nice and neat about the history of the valley. Its $4 per person, but you can learn a lot about the valley in the museum. It is a different museum from the history and art museum.

Enjoyed the very informative movie and exhibits. Easy to find. This venue helped us further understand the plight and the injustices brought upon the Nez Perce, particularly the bands that suffered in their quest to live free.

Took my mother there for the first time. She is in a wheel chair and she was able to get anyplace she wanted. It was great to see her enjoy the history.

This was so awesome. We loved this one. So much history and all 5 of us enjoyed it. We enjoyed every room. My son and his 2 older children got the most of it my other granddaughter is only 2. They were VERY interested in everything we saw... People were so nice when we came in also.

This museum is small by museum standards, but it has a lot of the Nez Perce Indian history displayed. There is also a twenty minute film that is a" don't miss" also. The people who work at this museum are very friendly. One we talked with is a Nez Perce Indian. He talked with such pride about this history of his family and people. Enjoyed very much!

It helps if you read bout the Nez Perce first. I recommend Yellow Wolf by L. V. McWhorter. We went specifically to see the Nez Perce reservation and visit the sites mentioned in Yellow Wolf. It was worth the trip. .

We stopped in to find out about the local history and found a nice variety of exhibits on the local Lewistown history, some exhibits on the Nez Perce Indians, and of course info on Lewis and Clark. Very well done for a volunteer organization.

Great set of people running this museum. They were very helpful in helping us with our questions. The history of this area was very well displayed.

It was very informaitve,The staff there spent alot of time explaining the history of the nez perce.The wooden canoe was magificent!

Years ago I spent a long day liberating Herb Banks very significant collection of railroad photos from the highly acidic environment in which he had encased them, behind glass and with backing nailed to the frame. On this trip I stopped at the museum to view them again, and was refused. "We can't show these to the general public." This is NOT what museums are about. If they won't show them, they should give them to another venue which will. Herb did not take those pictures to hide them in a drawer! Who knows what else they have sequestered? This whole experience was shocking and very upsetting. I do not recommend that you submit yourself to a similar disconnect from reality.

Average size collection of the Nez Perce tribe. Fascinating tribe story. Nice childrens corner to trickle the senses. Free entrance, so wurth the stop when following route 12.

The interpretive center is 11 miles east of Lewiston and worth the detour if it isn't on your route. It is not large, but houses an excellent collection of artifacts in a very pleasant building. There is a video about 20 minutes long that tells the sad story of the treatment of the Nez Perce who originally owned a large region in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon that has now been reduced to the reservation where the historical park stands. There is sometimes an artist working and we visited with a lovely lady making corn husk woven items. she was not selling anything, but sharing her knowledge. This entire historical park includes many (more than 20 I think) different separate widely-separated sites, including several battlegrounds. A map is available at the center. There is also a good website, which is how i stumbled on it. There are no signs until you are within a few miles.

We live in Lewiston and have visited this museum many times. If you are a local or visiting the area be sure to put this on your list of "things todo"The museum is a rather small museum but has many interesting artifacts and will give one a quick overview of the history of the area and give ideas of other areas you many want to investigate.They have fun things for children to do and the staff is friendly and helpful.Here you will learn the Lewiston was once known as Rag City and also was the capitol of Idaho in early days.
