This was my third visit here. It's a landmark for me because I travel across interstate 90 fairly often Hawkeye Point is only a few miles south of Worthington, MN on HWY 60. The first time I stopped, there was barely a marker and it was really cool, like discovering something so unique that hardly anyone else knew about. The last time I was here was in October of 2008 and they had a nice, round marker and some flags and that's about it. Now, I was surprised at what it's become! It's almost like a state park with converting the old barn and silo that were on the site into a walk-through interpretive exhibit of the area and the site and the silo has stairs and a big deck on it so you can overlook the site. It's a must-see if you're on a high-point tour, or just in the area.

This was a great place to stop for a short break from our drive of NE to MN. It was quite a surprise to see the nice park benches, flags, fun deck around the silo to walk, the barn with a quilt block and the mosaic Iowa state marker. there are other fun items at this spot also. The new campground that they have put in across the road is really nice. We were able to do 3 geocaching in this area which was an added bonus.

Growing up in Sibley we would climb the Ocheyedan mound as the highest point in Iowa. Then this farm was found to be a tiny bit higher so our local FFA turned it into a park/point. It was a windy stop today, and also stinky(from nearby pigs). If you want a scenic hike, go over to the Ocheyedan mound.

Hawkeye Point is the highest natural point in Iowa, 1670 feet. A few buildings on the property offer brochures and some photo's of historic events in the area. I happened to meet Mike who was building a beautiful deck around the silo for a lookout platform. You can see 3 states from up there and also a lot of agriculture plains. Plans are underway to make the site an Iowa Welcome Center among other things.
