The Grand Rapids Farmers' Market is approaching its 30th year of bringing fresh local food and other goods to locals and visitors. The Market recently moved locations, and now sits next to Glen's Army/Navy on US Highway 2 (4th St. NW). They are open from May to October on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm.The outdoor Market isn't fancy but it is incredibly friendly, filled with unique local characters that grow, bake, harvest and create their products within a 50 mile radius of Grand Rapids. There are folks who harvest wild rice from their secret spots, exotic mushroom growers, vendors who raise chickens, pork and beef and offer bacon, sausage and jerky, a fellow who pickles and smokes fish, several outstanding bakers and even a wood-fired pizza maker. World class local honey and maple syrup are available too, along with more jams, jellies and pickles than you can possibly imagine. And of course, lots of fresh, local seasonal produce fills the farm stands.A trip to the Grand Rapids Farmers' Market is a chance to get a taste of local food you can't find anywhere else.
