Very interesting experience. This theater has been in continuous operation since the 1920s. We went on a Saturday night. There was a live organist playing before the movie. Actual curtains over the screen. Totally modernized sound and screen. The screen is a bit smaller than the standard theaters, but I didn't think it distracted from the experience. Locally pooped popcorn with real butter. Prices reasonable. My husband asked me to put a 4 because the rows are a bit close together, so when the people behind us moved, it would shake our seat. I didn't mind and thought the place was really an awesome experience. I would go back.

A truly great night out, we been there when the organist plays and the organ does come up from the bottom. And we saw, Breakfast at tiffany.

A very good, nice movie theater. Usually a bit of organ on weekend evenings. Overall a good restoration. Also, the owners own the Dairy Queen next door so you can bring in stuff from there.

Third, the Dairy Queen next door is owned by the same folks, so it's like an extended snack bar-- you can buy treats there and bring them in, and you even get a discount with your ticket. How cool is that?Fourth, it's just such a nifty old theater. This was my original reason for going here, but after several years, it's no longer in the top three.

It is beautiful and fully restored. Prices are reasonable. Picture and sound are great...comparable to more modern theaters. For the full experience, go on a night when they have an organist prior to the movie. This theater does not show previews, so don't be late for your show.

I always look for an excuse to see a movie at the Heights. It's a renovated 20's movie palace. A guy plays the organ before the movie on Friday and Saturday nights, total kitsch: "TelStar" "Around The World In 80 Days" "Star Wars". The popcorn is fresh and not overpriced (take that! Megaplex $6.00 for a small container rip offs!). The movies are always interesting, almost "art house" movies, indies, etc. And there is a Dairy Queen right next door (owned by the same people). In-town heaven.

Take a trip back in time! The heights theater is gorgeous and welcoming. The bathrooms are not fancy but the experience totally makes up for it!

Take a break from those cineplexes and experience what movie going used to be like. Completely renovated and beautifully done from the exquisite lobby to the velvet stage curtain. Modern heating, new seats, fully restored comfort. Senior movie prices are a bargain at $5 for first run flicks. The owners also manage the Dairy Queen next door and you can bring in DQ into the theater. Frequented by middle aged and older people which always makes for a civilized experience. I wish they popped better popcorn - my only complaint.

Not all movie theaters are created equal. Drop by on Saturday night and you'll understand what the fuss is about. The ticket booth is just inside the front door, where you expect it. And there is one ticket taker. If you get there early enough, the organ and organist start playing before the organ rises up out of the orchestra pit. He is playing songs from the forties and fifties, and will acknowledge your applause with a flourish. But the best part is how you look out over the audience without feeling like you are in a helicopter. And there is much gold leaf to look at around the stage. The maroon curtain is drawn not once, but twice. It's a family-run theatre. They only show the movies they want to show. My wife and I watched "Gravity" at the Heights, and enjoyed it more than if we had gone to the Imax.

We love this theater and always go there when they show a movie we want to see. The inside is restored and is so beautiful. The curtains open when the movie starts just like in the old days. The screen is big and all seats on are one floor, there isn't a balcony. They use real butter on their popcorn.

We love this one-screen theater and chose it over others when it is playing something we want to see. It is beautiful and fully restored. Prices are reasonable. Picture and sound are great...comparable to more modern theaters. For the full experience, go on a night when they have an organist prior to the movie. This theater does not show previews, so don't be late for your show.

We saw "Quartet" last weekend (great movie) with some friends who had never been to the Heights Theater. They were really impressed with the restoration of the 80 year old theater and the beautiful organ. They are doing a Thursday night series now of old movies about Hollywood. Look for more in the future and for showings of filmed operas and silent movies with live accompaniment on the organ or who know what. Good snack prices, too. It was a fun afternoon.www.heightstheater.com

This is our favorite theater on the north side of Minneapolis for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it has always been a good experience. It's a big enough theater that there have always been plenty of decent seats to be had, and by decent I mean you're in a good viewing arc and do not have anyone else in your immediate area. The seats aren't super comfy, but they're adequate. For whatever reason, the other patrons seem to be politer and quieter than in other theaters, though this may have something to do with the extra space between everyone. It may also have something to do with the relative lack of younger persons in the audience, but who wants to stereotype, right? ;)Second, they tend to show movies I like. I do not know the number of times they've shown a movie I never heard of and we went to see it and it was a total treat.Third, the Dairy Queen next door is owned by the same folks, so it's like an extended snack bar-- you can buy treats there and bring them in, and you even get a discount with your ticket. How cool is that?Fourth, it's just such a nifty old theater. This was my original reason for going here, but after several years, it's no longer in the top three.Be sure and get there on time, they don't show a ton of advertisements and other junk before the movie.
