I grew up in Mower County but there is SO much I never knew! Our guide was terrific and just as enthusiastic as we were. My brothers and I had a great time and will likely be back with our families in the future.

The Mower County Historical Society is a fun place to wander through - and there is so much to see! The complex includes something like 16 separate themed buildings and outdoor exhibits, and each one is packed with interesting artifacts. I love the newest exhibit, dedicated to WWII, in the old Administration building - beautifully set up displays with descriptions that really help one to understand what was going on then. The Log Cabin is a favorite - imagine living in a small space like that out on the prairie! And the one-room schoolhouse is wonderful, as a contrast to today's school rooms. The railroad cars are fun to wander through and the depot is fascinating. And I could go on about each building. The Mower County Historical Society is great for all generations - reliving the good old days or teaching about how our predecessors lived - well worth a visit!

The museum is located near the fairgrounds, has many buildings, and great number of exhibits. You can visit the school, church, blacksmith shop, carriage house, WWII building. For a small town, Austin has a fantastic museum. Funded mostly by donations, it is an excellent place to tour. Clean, and the staff is friendly and knows the area and the local lore. Very very nice
