This attraction is approximately 20 minutes, via car, from Summit, NJ. It is the original laboratory of Thomas Edison. Less than a mile away from the Edison Lab is his personal residence. This is also available to tour. The National Park Ranger conducting the tour of the home was informative and provided significant details about the life of Thomas Edison. Don't miss this if you are staying in Summit or around this area of New Jersey.

The entire neighborhood is beautiful and the fact that you can tour a house in it is fantastic. The fact that it is Thomas Edison's house is even better! If you love BEAUTIFUL old houses (especially GIGANTIC ones) that have been decorated in the appropriate style, this is the place for you. If you're there in the warmer weather, there's greenhouses to check out (although I suppose they could be checked out in any weather). Also be sure to visit his Laboratory which is pretty close by.

If you have never been there or were only there before the renovations, plan to go again. There is more to see in a much improved site operated by the National Park Service.

This is a wonderful look into the life of one of our most famous American inventors, Thomas A.Edison. The family mansion with Greenhouse in Llewellyn Park is definitely worth a visit along withthe Edison Labs on Main Street.

If you like old estates and their history... You'll love this place. We live in a neighboring town and the Edison historical home is our go to place with visitors. While not as grand as the homes in Newport, RI , it is far and away more interesting than the Fort myers winter estate. Does take a bit of time and if being on your feet for any length is a problem....this is not the place for you. The lab worthwhile too.... I am not particularly a science person,but if you're there do take the time to see it too...always something to learn!

The workers are awesome! I live in this town and do not go there but I had to for son. What a great experience for both of us. There was so much to learn without being taught in school. It was just such a great learning and educational experience for both of us. I highly recommend this.

We came here on a cold winter's day. It is not real expensive at $7 per person and then an additional $5 for an audio guide if you wish. They show a short film at the visitors center which is very small. The grounds were smaller than I expected. My engineer husband enjoyed seeing Edison's factory and lab. For me, it was mildly interesting, although I was not aware of all Edison's inventions and liked some of the info about them. Make sure when you come that you ask for tickets for the house tour which are included. We got the last two tickets around noon for the day. The park ranger who gave us our tour was enthusiastic and supplied much background info about Edison's life. He said that if it were not for Edison's wife and some of his workers, Edison would have been unable to accomplish what he did. The house is a 5 minute drive away from the factory site. The Edisons are buried on the property.

Thomas Edison National Historic Site is run by the National Park Service so you're going to a place that never seems to be finished due to budgets. You have to take a guided tour which is going to be an absolute bore for any child not old enough or not interested in science. It's not exactly set up the way it was back in his day, but you'll see enough to get an idea. There's nothing startling or incredible. You just go to say you've been there, done that. Don't go out of your way. It's in a lousy area. You don't want to wander around the neighborhood. Be careful.

Don't even bother. The place is perpetually under construction. It's a shame that the state can never complete the project. I'm sure Edison is rolling over in his grave :(

Saw Thomas Edison's house - that was the best part. Saw some of his belongings, clothes, and books. Lot of other buildings closed. Another interesting site was a car garage with a rotating floor/lift so they could do lots of work on it. The site is quite large and tree filled so it is a pleasant site. Just not that much to do.

My husband is a chemist and holds a dozen patents himself so we had to stop at Edision's lab on a recent trip up to Boston. It was an impressive lab, especially for the time. The chemistry building was of particular interest to hubby, but the heavy and precision machine shops (each one floor of the builidng with the largest displays) were especially well preserved. I was most impressed with the staircase between the two shops that were so well worn you know that the staff ran between the labs multiple times a day. The library was also a site to see. The nearby Glenmont estate is also included in the price of admission, however it is only open Fri-Sun, so keep that in mind if you are more interested in a very well preserved late 19th century home.

Thomas Edison was a remarkable American. Visit here and learn more about his work, inventions and family life. This site is where he did research and development and manufacturing. The knowledgable Rangers and volunteers will make this visit memorable. There are well designed displays within the actual laboratory complex. The Edison home is nearby and deserves a visit. You need tickets to tour the home which you can purchase here. There is so much to see and learn about here.

Nowhere did we come so close to the pioneering spirit of one of the most brilliant of American Inventors. The Edison Laboratory is just out of this world. Breathtakingly interesting.

We are two senior couples. Large lab is preserved as it was in the late 1800's. I was amazed at how prolific and shrewd this inventor was who contributed massively to our world over 60 years. There are guided as well as self-tour options in the laboratory complex. The three-story main building has elevators. Reservations for a guided tour of Glenmont Estate are required. It is definitely worthwhile and is a short drive from the labs. The home where Thomas and Mina lived is beautiful both inside and out.The house tour takes about 50 minutes and could sense how it must have been to live there.There are no food facilities but there are a few spots nearby. We had a god lunch at the Americana diner between the lab and house visits. Overall, the visit took over five hours, including a lunch break. If you don't have a National Parks pass and are a senior, buy one! This and many other national attractions are free with this lifetime pass.

Had passed by the sign many times, finally made the time to go. We were a party of 4, 2 "mature" adults & 2 young adults. We all enjoyed our visit. We were fortunate that 1 in our party had a National Parks Pass so admission was free. Go early as the tour of Edison's home is limited, first come first served. We had an 11:30 tour so we enjoyed a film of his life toured a bit & then headed to our car for the 5 minute drive to his home. Glenmount is located in a gated community so you are asked to keep your flyer in the window at all times & to travel only to Glenmount. Once on the grounds there is a greenhouse & small gift shop to tour & a stamp for your passport. We had a docent led tour, while she was knowledgeable she did say some rather disparaging things about Edison's older children which I could not substantiate once home. So maybe take some of the comments with a grain of salt. The house is beautiful you are allowed only on the 1st & 2nd floor. There is a huge amount of things to see & you are moved around pretty quickly, no photographs of course. There is a very interesting story about how the Edison's got the house. When we were there they had begun decorating it for Christmas, it must be quite gorgeous when done.After strolling the grounds, both Edison & his second wife are buried there. We drove back to see more of the labs. The ranger tours make the tour, they are very informative & answer & encourage questions. Fascinating to see all that was imagined, invented & produced here. We all enjoyed our time here & felt is was very worthwhile. Large gift shop in the visitors center, that is also where the bathrooms are located. There is a spot to get your passport stamped (1 for the labs & the other is for Glenmount). Nice to see information about Tesla as well.
