I will admit I am NOT usually a fan of museum's. However, when we drove by and saw the large horse statues outside we were intrigued and decided to explore the museum. It was myself, my husband and our two daughters (ages 1 and 4). We all had a great time. The highlight was the small play area for the kids and that they got to dress up in costume and interact with the exhibits. it was really cool to see the different stage coaches. You could tell whether someone wealthy owned the coach based on the different trim levels. It was fairly inexpensive to get in and children under 6 were free. We enjoyed it and I think most families would too.

We found this museum VERY interesting! But, we are history lovers...if you don't enjoy seeing items used by the pioneers, farmers, Native Americans, travelers of yesteryear...don't bother going. Outside are statues of various breeds of horse - displayed in a beautiful action setting. Lots to see/read about the local area on display. Enjoy!

There are saddles and chaps on display as well as a gun display upstairs. Downstairs you will find old wagons and carriages as well as a display from the museums' benefactor.

I was dragged to this museum and it was sooooo boring. My kids also were completely bored. It is described as interactive, "taking you from early history in New Mexico through more modern times." Well, if you call walking around and looking at 20 different types of wagons and other horse-drawn vehicles interactive, then, fine. It's a nice collection, but just not something you "must see or do" while in Ruidoso. I was more impressed be the garden area out front with the horse statues.

They also had an additional exposition of art that we enjoyed a lot and the horse statues in the outside also look great

This museum has a nice variety of horse-related memorabilia including many types of wagons and carriages. There is also a large collection of art and other items donated by a local lady who had obviously spent her whole life collecting things. Not very expensive and a nice place to spend an hour.

This was a very nice place to visit, and if you are history buff, a must see when in Ruidoso. Displays include carriages, weapons, horse memorabila.

We really loved the history display of the west and horses. There was a wonderful display of horse carts, they had a hearse, chuck wagon kitchen and many more. An added plus was the beautiful display of quilts. If you're visiting Ruidoso, NM and love history & museums this is a must see.

Not a whole lot there. What they have is ok, but not great and there's not much of it. Parts of the museum are interesting, but overall not a great experience. For the price of admission, I don't think this is worth it. There is so much to do in Lincoln County, that this ranks pretty low on the lists of "must do's" in Lincoln County.

Easy to get to, the place has some excellent areas to take pictures of these beautiful horses. It was located to another area of interest that was in walking distance.

Great bits of history in the gun collection and in the history of the museums collections. Large collection of wagons and carriages. A very informative and touching photo exhibit by and about local earlier inhabitants.

Excellent stop. Even has some things the kids can climb on and touch. Very cool place and friendly people.

Small museum (about the size of a school gym) with interesting exhibits and a friendly staff. Inexpensive-- only about $6.00 for adults.Many horse-related items.Outdoor exhibit with larger-than-life horses running through a "landscape."Has a special interactive for children. Nice gift shop.

so much to look at, wonderful displays, great for families, we learned so much . What a well done museum !!!

The exhibits are definitely interesting and well done--although not always museum quality, but this is made up for by the well-versed and enthusiastic docents. It looks to be a good museum for families, and we were impressed with the children's "active" area.
