old west miniature village and museum

I had just spotted this as we drove into town so I thought it might be a fun stop. We ended up spending almost 2 hours in here watching all of the scenes created in the museum. Then visiting the store! Great for kids and adults!!

HOLD ON==yes, this was sold to a very fine museum collector in California (he didnt want to just let it go to anyone or close it down) The will spend the year(?) slowly packing it up. I dont know what's left when you come by, but there was such a mind-boggling collection that even if you saw 1/5 of it, it would be worth it... well, it's free, so what do you have to lose? -- there is also a big Western gift shop -- it is listed twice on Trip Advisor I believe bec. of the gift shop. == the center is (was) a gigantic miniature train diorama of the Old West. Along all four sides were collections of the Old West, being heavy on the Native American items. It wasn't just a couple of beaded coats or axes, but a dozen or more of each item, and tastefully displayed, like on Indian blankets. Some very rare pieces, like a dug out canoe and one made of animals skins -- it pays to Really Look at everything! Free parking in front, and a restaurant next door. It's on main street just as you are leaving town. There are doors betw. the shop and the museum.

While basically looks like a gift shop, in the back for a small charge there are extensive miniature-figure dioramas of many western topics, plus a first-class set of display cases of native Indian clothing and articles. On west edge of town, south side.

We went thinking the model trains would be running. Instead it is in the middle of construction. Kind of a let down.

The Miniature Village and Museum are sold out - literally - they have been moved to California!! When I asked the owner why they still have their advertising out, he just told me that it still gets foot traffic into his store. Our son was heartbroken that we didn't get to see the much touted miniature village, and frankly so were my husband and myself! It is advertised even in Yellowstone, and when we got there, it was "tough luck" for us!

There are two entries in Trip Advisor for the same attraction. This is not worth the stop in 2014 because its under construction.

This is a nice, family operated museum. The huge area in the midle of the room contains all the miniature figures. All sorts of history is displayed here. There is a brochure they give you so you know what you are looking at with the miniatures. The display cases along the walls show a variety of antiques. There is a HUGE collection of Indian arrowheads. This is a nice place to spend an hour.

what a collection of Indian memorabilia and display. Especially enjoyed the history of the west by era between white man & Indian.Think kids would really enjoy the miniature displays and trains.

Family own and operated and a must see. Met the owners who have worked most of their lives building the miniatures. A great way to see the history of WY. Also loved the gift shop as most items I was interested in were well priced. Make sure to stop by!

Wonderful private collection of the old west and fascinating historical artifacts.The artists did a wonderful job! Staff was helpful. Some of the souvenirs were not American made.

I'm so glad my dad suggested this place as a site to see when we were visiting Cody. It originally wasn't on our agenda and I'm very glad we stopped in. The hours are great. They were open until 7 pm when we visited. The museum is free, though they accept donations. The items inside are part of a personal collection. A considerable amount of items are on display, from Plains Indians memorabilia, to Cowboy memorabilia and animal displays. The kids LOVED the diorama in the middle of the musueum. The kids pushed buttons as they went along the diorama to hear a narrative telling the story of each section, usually in the first person and in character voices. There was even a train track they controlled by pushing a button. This feature was great, because it kept them busy while we checked out the other displays. (All displays are in one large, rectangular room, so no concerns will getting separated).There is a large gift shop outside the museum, with lots to see. Lots to choose from with varying prices from a few bucks to over a hundred. Jewellery, toys, clothing, decor, books and souvenirs to be had.This place is worth a stop for sure.

This museum is free. It is the owners lifetime collection of Indian and cowboy artifacts. He also has a miniature diorama. They only ask you if you want to leave a donation of any size. It was a very impressive collection.

If you go to the Old Trail town, then you should visit the miniature village just across the road. Entrance is by donation, so price is up to you. Interesting to look at the miniature display and press buttons to move the trains or listen to the commentary. Very interesting stories from the old West

Miniature village must have taken years to assemble and create with story telling audios. Wonderful private collection of the old west and fascinating historical artifacts. Very personable owners who took time to provide detailed explanations.
