Sleeping Indian Outfitters is the bomb. They matched our riders to their horses perfectly and guided us through a three-day adventure in the mountains of Wyoming. We slept under sparkling skies, fished for native trout and enjoyed delicious gourmet meals on the trail. The scenery and the guides were spectacular. We highly recommend and we would use them again.

This is our second visit to Sleeping Indian Outfitters for horseback riding. Our first time was fantastic and I was hesitant on going back for just that reason. As I learned there was no reason for my concern. This second trip was even more exciting than the first. The guide was once again Alex and she is an unbelievable guide. The creek has risen due to the late runoff and going thru the creek as quite an exciting adventure but Alex made it safe and fun. the scenery was once again spectacular and breathtaking. The horses were perfect for our limited experience. Sleeping Indian is a real horseback adventure and not just a limited guided tour.My son and I cannot wait till next year to go riding again at Sleeping Indian.

We are a German Family of 3 with a 7 yr old daughter who is crazy for horses. Planning our Wyoming vacation we looked for a horseback riding tour including overnight stay in a tent in a private atmosphere. With Sleeping Indian Outftters we found everything we needed:1. 2 super motivated, cool, friendly and nice guides only for us knowing how to make the perfect trip!2. 3 days / 2 nights horseback riding in an outstanding beautiful environment for a reasonable price. So, if one asks me what can be done better: The answer is NOTHING! Many thanks to Alix and Sam!Andreas J. and Family

My husband and I had an amazing time riding through the mountains with Alex! The scenery was beautiful and the ride was long, relaxed and private. I happened to stumble across this business while searching for horse-back rides on the Wyoming tourism website and I am so very glad we found them! We had a full day filled with riding, fishing and beautiful mountains with a great guide who really knew her stuff! It was a great adventure! This place offers an AMAZING value! The price is less than any others we found for an all-day ride and fish experience. Thanks to the Sleeping Indian Outfitters and Alex for helping to make our vacation awesome!!

Outstanding experience in an incredible part of Wyoming. We rode the Sleeping Indian Outfitter horses into the Gros Ventre wilderness and there enjoyed a three day "glamping" experience. They had already had our tents erected and the camp kitchen ready to go. The food prepared was nothing short of gourmet. The options for the "down" time included sitting by the campfire, hiking to waterfalls and mountains or additional trail riding. Alix and Sam are an amazing team. They created an unforgettable experience for three teenagers and five adults. We can't thank them enough!

As I was planning a trip to Yellowstone, a friend recommended an area called Granite Creek (Forest Service campground, hot springs) about 40 miles south east of Jackson. I had a cabin reserved in Yellowstone for a Tuesday night, so I planned on two nights (Sun. & Mon) @ Granite Creek on my way up from Colorado. I got the crazy idea that I should take a day ride while there, that it would be a good way to cover a lot of ground in a short time, and that the hot springs afterwards would be a brilliant finish to an awesome day (spoiler alert: it was). So I called about a week ahead of time to see if there might be a ride I could tag along with, as I was traveling solo at that point. I was reluctant to make firm plans, because I want sure I'd be able to secure a campsite @ Granite Creek (first come basis), which is about ten miles down the highway from Bondurant. But the rides on Sleeping Indian's website all looked like winners. They were very accommodating to my need for flexibility, but I would suggest making firmer arrangements than I did. Cell phone coverage was very spotty (t-mobile), so I just had to show up Monday morning to find that Alix was already out on a short ride with some other party. But she'd be available shortly after lunch, so I drove about twenty miles to Hoback Junction for some breakfast. (I gotto know that stretch of highway fairly well. )Alix and I headed out about 1:00 along the Shoal Creek trail for a short ride with the option of turning it into a half-day. I hadn't been on a horse for about 30 years, so that sort of "let's see how it goes" approach appealed to me. As the other reviews state, Alix is very knowledgeable about the area, the fauna and flora, and is a great guide (patient and helpful). She's also an exceedingly personable young woman and really loves what she does. My horse, Smiley, was well-suited to a tenderfoot like me - calm, gentle, and not too willful, though he did seem more interested in munching on wildflowers along the way than in the guy sitting on his back. Throw in some amazing vistas, river crossings of the swollen Hoback, a brief afternoon downpour, and you have the recipe for one fantastic afternoon. If you are going to be in the Jackson area and want to do something less touristy, somewhat adventurous, challenging and extremely satisfying, go for a ride with these folks. Thanks, Alix.

My 3 teenagers asked me to find horseback riding that allowed some freedom and was NOT nose to rear the whole time. And that is exactly what we got with Sleeping Indian Outfitters. With Alix, our friendly and informative guide, we set off on a spectacular scenic and adventurous half day horse back ride. Bring a good camera, great opportunities for beautiful pictures! Well worth the money! Planning on going back for the 3-day overnight ride!!

My husband and I went on an all day trail ride with Alix. We had a awesome day. The horses were great. The views were spectacular. We saw lots of wildlife on the ride and the wildflowers were in full bloom. Alix is amazing. She knew every animal, plant, flower, tree and the history of the area. She was wonderful and made our day one we will never forget. We are so glad we chose Sleeping Indian Outfitters for our day of riding. We hope to go back and do it again! Lee and Jim (Ohio)

We rode with Alex all morning. She is a kick in the pants. Very knowledgable about the area and friendly. She put us on two good mounts and took us throughout the foothills of the Gros Ventre range. We saw coyotes, sand hill cranes, elk, antelope and a western red taniger (nice job with the names, Alex). It was great time--definitely a good value for the money in the Jackson area since you get more time/attention/adventure than a huge group trail ride at the Village or Snow King. Worth it.

The very best of everything- best guide, best horses, best scenery, best time.. We could enjoy the offerings of the Sleeping Indian Outfitters over and over and enjoy the adventures more each time. Thank you, SIO!

Second time trail riding with Sleeping Indian Outfitters and enjoyed both trips. Alex, our guide, was super in describing much about the landscape, the Wyoming mountain range and animals in the area. Big Red, my horse for the day was great. Had no problems riding this good looking and quite agreeable steed. Couldn't ask for anything better unless it's one of their overnight packtrips. That's our next trip with Sleeping Indian Outfitters. Hope it's soon.

I work an on call job so planning to kill an elk for meat on my families table has become a reality time and time again ever since I had the pleasure of meeting Sam and Paul. Last year the quarters went in to the processor in Thayne and they told me "the size of them quarters u'd swear it was a moose." And that's just what the ol'lady likes to hear is bags and bags of jerky n steaks hitting the floor of the deep freezer. With a special thanks to Sam and his family for the food on the table.

We have rode horse trails in 3 other mountain ranges, but Sam and Alix's Gros Ventres mountains were the most private and least traveled by other public. It is like stepping back in time to ride to camp, campfire cast iron cooking, overnight tenting, wildlife spotting on more trails rides on subsequent days. Awesome trip at a affordable price, they work hard so you don't have to! Gene and Nancy

My 15 year old son and I visiteed Jackson Hole WY on July 11th to the 16th,2013. We are an active pair and I wanted my son to experience all that Jackson Hole had to offer. One thing we decided on was horseback riding.Neither one of us had been horseback riding before.I searched a number of of advertisements in the Jackson Hole area and then I contacted my other son who lives in Jackson Hole and he yold me that the best horseback riidng experience was Sleeping Indian Outfitters (SIO) located approximately 35 miles outside of Jackson in a small country community called Bondurant.THe ride was easy and the scenery was beautiful.Once we arrived we were greeted by Alix who along with her fiancee Sam operate SIO . Alix made us feel right at home from the time we stepped out of our car. Our horses were waitng for us and Alix provided instructions that were clear and esasy to understand. The horses were perfect for my son and I and any apprehensions we may have had disappeared quickly .It was obvious Alix loved her horses and people. The ride was something we never expected. The beauty of the trails was breathtaking and Alix explained the history of the area as we rode throughout. WE went up and up and the more we went the more astonishing the views .We crossed streams and farms on our journey and we met a real cowboy who was fixing fencing on his property.During the ride Alix stopped to take pictures of my son and I and the beautiful mountains and valleys that we rode through. If you can imagine a perfect experience than you can relate to our horseback riding adventure with Alix. The trip lasted over 2 hours but my son and I hated to see it end.We did a lot of great activties while in the jackson Hole area but the horseback riidng adventure at SIO was by far the most fun and adventuresome .We HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend recommend that if you are in the Jackson Hole area you drive to Bondurant and partcipate in the Sleeping Indian Outfitters experience.I can guarantee that you will not regret your decision.
