manzanita spring

It was a quick and easy hike from the trailhead behind Frijole Ranch. It was dead of winter, so not much green at all, but the desolation had its own sense of beauty. We were practically the only people there, only ran into one other couple coming back from the hike.It's paved from Frijole Ranch to Manzanita Spring and should be wheelchair accessible, however, it seem like massive rain/flood had damaged and deposited a large amount of debris at one of the bridges on the trail, so much so that I think a wheelchair will not be able to get past it. Might want to check with the visitor center ahead of time to see if that section of the trail has been fixed yet before setting out.

We took a short yet worthwhile walk to Manzanita spring last week. The trailhead is near the Frijoles Ranch; it starts west just a few yards beyond the ranch yard and buildings. The trail is paved all the way to the springs, and I believe it would be wide enough for a wheelchair or stroller. It's flat, and very easy to walk.It was very hot the day we hiked, and I'm glad we had plenty of water even though the trail to Manzanita is very short (took us maybe ten minutes to walk to it). The spring is pretty: not very big, but's neat to see it in the middle of the desert. We saw some birds flying around, but no other wildlife. The paved path ends at Manzanita springs, but a narrow dirt path goes all the way around the spring. There's also a longer, unpaved trail leading from Manzanita spring to another spring. We did not walk to the other spring.
