Possum Kingdom Lake, PK as we call it, offers something for everyone! Comfortable and casual place where you can float at Hells Gate with friends while sipping an ice cold beer, go for a hike, trail run or mountain bike ride on the more than 20 miles of PK Hike & Bike trails, play a challenging round of golf at the Cliffs, and visit one of the local restaurants offering a delicious meal!

Great place to relax, watch TV, view the lake, enjoy beverages, large menu with good food and very friendly waitstaff.

Because the lake is the damned up Brazos river, it has many faces. From 200' cliffs to sandy beaches there is something for everyone.

This lake is just for partying kids and rich people with big boats. We camped at the state park, no shade. The lake is low due to the drought. If you don't have a big boat, you better stay out of the way of others. The wake from a bigger boat, (yacht) almost capsized out 20 Bayliner. Wont be taking our boat back there again,. Partying kids til all ours of the night. If you want some place quiet and peaceful...this in NOT the place.

I go a couple times a year with different scuba dive groups next week we will do the annual clean up after labor day called the hells gate clean up. last year 35 divers cleaned out 5200 lbs of trash from boaters party's The water is clean and clear. the major drawback is that most of the shore is privately owned.

I've lived in Texas for all of my life, except for 4 years of Graduate school. I've been on more lakes than I can count but this was my first time to PK even though I've lived close to it for many years. The views are extraordinary. It's such a consistently deep lake that the water temps are wonderfully cool even in the 100 degree days of August. Most other lakes feel like your jumping in bath water at this time of year. I want to move here.

The views from around the lake are so beautiful. You can travel to different sections of the lake and experience a complete different look. One side are the amazing cliffs, including Hell's Gate. The other side doesn't have the cliffs, but has its own unique beauty. The lake is extremely low right now. Many homes have beach front property instead of lake front property as of now, but nonetheless, the beauty is still there. Although a boat or watercraft makes it much more enjoyable to see the scenery and experience the lake, there are many places to go to see the views. You can go the Brazos River Authority by the damn and overlook the lake from above and see the cliffs. There are several trails, my favorite leads to Angels View, that you can see the entire lake, including Hells Gate from afar. Several parks that you can make your way to the water.

I went with my family and planned on renting a boat to go see Hell's Gate and fish but didn't expect for every boat rental place to have a $500 deposit and for half a day it would be almost $400 bucks too. We didn't have that kind of money so we thought maybe we could drive to see it. Nope. Every area you could drive to see it was PRIVATE PROPERTY. Only way of seeing it is by boat. Very disappointing.

The place is great and the best I have seen in TX. The problem is you cannot enjoy most of the places on the lake because of freaking private property. The reason I went there was because I saw the Hell's gate pics which was great. The problem is I could not go close or near the Hell's gate because of the private property. WHAT THE HELL. if you don't have a boat there is no way you can go closer. North west owned by YMCA which cannot go or even take pics. the other side is owned by the wealthy people. NO BOAT NO MONEY GO F*** YOURSELF. REALITY

There are so many great things about PK lake: beautiful limestone cliffs, acres of water to explore, few boats for it's size, no muck, no grass on cliff sides, great temperature. Only negative might be that there are few places to take your boat out and stop for dinner or drinks, but load up your boat and go floating, or eat in and enjoy the laid back atmosphere! Always wear your life jacket--this lake is 60-80 feet deep or more and it is dark!

I stayed Memorial Day weekend at The Cliffs resort on Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas. (I reviewed that as well, so check that out too!) Things I suggest you check out that are nearby:1. Picture spot along the last part of the drive to The Cliffs. There's a little place to pull over on the side of the road. 2. Hike and Bike Trail---this is closer to The Harbor Grille (I reviewed this too, so check that out) than to The Cliffs. Maybe 5-10 minute drive. I didn't have time that day to check out all of the trails, but the map looked like the area offered several trails. There is a restroom that was pretty clean when we were there too. The one I went on was not very challenging, it was more like a nice stroll up a hill (ok, maybe a little more challenging than that!)

PK lake is deep and clear. In the summer the water temperature stays comfortable and cool much longer than other shallow lakes in Texas. PK has a number of great communities to visit on the SE side is the Cliffs, the Peninsula in the middle with lots of swimming, parks and boating and the North side with more year around homes. PK is a great stress reliever for anyone from DFW who just wants to get away from the city and enjoy the outdoors.

PK is HUGE..by that I mean "long". We stay here some in the summer and love it. DFW is not too far a way so making a Ranger game is always possible. Water level is way down but what lake in Texas isn't these days. Great for boating and fishing.

Scenic and fun place to boat. Great water and long lake for hours of boating fun. Rock cliffs add to sight seeing.

If you want to get away from the rat race of the big city of Dallas come here;I was raised here over 50yrs ago & I love coming back & reconnecting to the wide open sky's where you can look up & actually see the stars that you forgot were up there.I love the fresh clean air I can breath here.Possum Kingdom has some of the most breath taking sunsets that you will not ever see any where else. You will also love the west Texas hospitality.
