Just recently they had professional cliff divers here at Hell's Gate. Been to the place and it's beautiful. Would have loved to have seen the divers make the 70 to 90 foot dive into the 70 foot deep water.

I like to play a new golf course on my birthday every year. The Cliffs lived lived up to expectations. Very unique, driving in you wouldn't know there's a course, it winds up and down around Possum Kingdom Lake. Great views, Great greens and fairways. Even saw deer walking around on course. Nice resort course. Awesome!! Thanks fam for a great 50th birthday!!

This hotel overlooks the lake from the top of cliffs, amazing beauty! Rooms are very nice. Marina has options to rent to get out on the water if you like. Took a 2 person jet ski around the lake and had a blast. Very romantic place!

We went to The Cliffs Resort for a weekend retreat and did not have as wonderful of a time as we had hoped. I reserved our room online choosing a king with a lake view. For extra I chose the romance package which included champagne upon arrival, a three course dinner and breakfast at the on-site restaurant. When we arrived for check-in they did not greet us or welcome us in anyway. The rim was nice and as expected, gorgeous view of the lake. They did not give us our champagne upon arrival and instead it seemed like a bit of an imposition for them. Both my reservation email and their system showed I had the romance package. They finally brought us the champagne, and hoping it was a one time thing shrugged it off. The pool is nothing exciting and you can't even order a cold beverage or anything. Dinner time rolled around and we choose to sit on the patio and listen to the live music. The food is very good but the service is incredibly poor. At time to get the bill I reminded than that we had the romance package and they asked to see a card. I told them I hadn't received a card from the desk and wasn't sure about what they were referring to. They went to call the front desk and it took another 45 minutes for them to get it sorted out. Breakfast was a buffet, which was fine. Service was a tad better and less trouble with the package. At checkout the receptionist seemed like someone who had better things to do than talk to me. They attempted to charge me for the champagne I had already paid for with the romance package and it took arguing and showing proof of my reservation for her to tell me she couldn't do anything until a manager was in. She rolled her eyes several times at us and just overall acted like we were a major inconvenience to her life. Resorts are about impeccable customer service, The Cliffs falls very short. The view and rooms were great, but the service is horrific and ruins the whole relaxing atmosphere. We will NEVER return and I would not recommend to a friend or family.

This course lives up to its reputation, one of the best in Texas. Great layout challenging at times. Great scenery as well.

Loved the course. It wasn't a busy day so it felt like My dad and I had it all to ourselves. So many scenic holes once you get along the cliffs. It's a little bit of a drive from Dallas but I highly recommend playing this course if you are a golfer. The views alone are worth playing it.

Lot of fun with a challenging course layout. Requires targeted shots and accuracy to enjoy. Deer roaming throughout. Nice, fun course to play occasionally.

It is great to have a huge lake in the center of Texas, a state that struggles with droughts. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I spoke with Bobbi when I made our reservation, and she went to check on the rooms to see which one would be best for us. There was a wedding on Saturday and I was afraid it would be busy and loud, but there were no problems. We stayed in a corner king on the second floor with the lake view, on a Thursday and Friday the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend. It was nice to have the balcony. We saw a starry night and a great thunderstormThe room is a nice size. The a/c is loud but it did not bother us. We use air filters at home and sleep well with white noise. It worked very well, which is a must for me in Texas. The marina for the resort is about a 10 min drive. It was too hot to walk. We did not rent a boat but think that would be a great way to see the lake. It was too hot to go very far on the hike and bike trail during the day. We did ride our bicycles around the golf course in the evening. There is a playground, but without a boat not sure if children would get bored. The food we ate while at Possum Kingdom was okay. Our impression is that Possum Kingdom Restaurants are appealing to conservative tastes, nothing too spicy or original...family friendly, but not a foody place. There are two pools. They are quite nice with sun and shade. We had the one closest to our room by ourselves the first day, and drove to the other one a little farther down the road and only encountered one other couple the second day.We were passing through on our way to Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge from Austin, and it was a great choice for the two of us. There doesn't seem to be much around...which was great for us quiet types.

I have been twice and my recent trip was excellent!! I visited the Cliffs in 2008 and I must say I was disappointed. However, we went back and things have really improved - the staff were friendly, the room was great, view of the lake and the whole trip very relaxing! I could keep going back just for the golf alone!!

We stayed 5 days at the resort. They have a great pool. And the boat rentals are comparable to other places. The lake is beautiful! You can experience playing a round of golf with different scenery on every hole. To top it all, there are beautiful deer every where. Very relaxing, low key family vacation.

These are very over priced and nothing to offer for entertainment.

We just spent 3 days at The Cliffs with my daughter, son in law and grandson and would never go back. The Inn was fine. We knew it was rustic and there'd be no valet service, but we sure didnt think the maid would skip a day cleaning our room. The internet would work and then cut out in the middle of email and the A/C was so noisy we had to use ear plugs. I never did hear my husband snoring, so that was a plus.If those were the only problems i'd still return BUT the food was horrid. A simple hamburger was like shoe leather served on a stale bun. Fries were tasty. Rolls were awful. My grandson could not eat the chicken sandwich. That too was overcooked and impossible to swallow. My daughter ordered a cheese sandwich that was thrown together and unappetizing. If there hadn't been that general store down the road we'd have left earlier than planned. Thank goodness we could get a decent meal there at a quasi Whataburger. What we couldn't fathom was why a fine resort wouldn't hire a decent chef and cooking staff and have a 3 star restaurant to match it's golf course. After a day of golf, boating or swimming it would have been so enjoyable to have a leisurely good meal and not have to leave the Inn to get it.

My husband and I usually don't spend this kind of money on a hotel, but we chose to this time, and we were pretty disappointed. We arrived shortly before check-in time and were told to wait 30 minutes and then our room would be ready. We walked down to the marina which was an hour round trip, so again, there should have been plenty of time to get our room ready. The person at the desk merely looked at us and told us we needed to wait another 15 minutes. She gave us room keys and told us that she was going to put her "best person" onto cleaning it up. We drove around and waited 40 minutes, only to walk up to our room and find the door open, beds stripped, floor un-vacuumed and no one working on it. We were finally placed into another room (which had not been vacuumed but at least had bedding). It only took them 2 hours to put us into a room, and nothing was done or said in the way of apology. My husband played the golf course which was nice but was a litle pricey, too. We ate at the restaurant for lunch and it, too, was pretty expensive. We had been told to seat ourselves and sat out on the patio, but received no service until my husband went in and asked for some. The facilities are nice but overpriced, and I would rate the service at this resort as poor. Everyone we spoke to seemed to have the attitude that we were "lucky to be there" and that we were a bother. No, we would not go back.
