farmers branch historical park

Memories and what not one two three four five six seven ( I am trying to get up to at least fifty words, or else I can not submit this review ) That is why I randomly started counting, only one thing to say...Oh man just a few more. I think that is fifty!

Truly informative, tons of old buildings and vehicles all maintained. Attached is the beginning of the rose gardens so enjoy an afternoon here it's worth your time.

I love visiting historical homes/sites where ever I travel. This is one of the best I have ever seen! The property is beautifully laid out with lovely landscaping. There are two log cabins, a train caboose, a general store, train depot, three homes, a school and a church. I received a guided tour from Richard who maintains all of the buildings on the property. He provided excellent commentary on each of the buildings taking the time to answer questions and describe many of the artifacts found in and around the buildings. This was no cursory tour. I could tell that he truly has a passion for what he does! The tour lasted roughly 2 hours and was free of charge. If you are ever in the area do yourself a favor and visit this lovely little park. You'll be glad you did!

We went there for a bluegrass music festival. It was a very nice park with very cool historical buildings. There is an old Victorian house with furnishings. They take you on a tour and tell you about the history. There is also an old school house and church. There is a flower garden and other buildings as well. I think it is worth checking out if you are in the area.

They have a log cabin home, an old train depot station, and an old gas station on the grounds. It gives young people a look at bygone days. Also they have fairs and festivals on the grounds and star gazing parties...did I mention it's free? It is!

This is a small historical park with several historic and reconstructed buildings. The park is beautifully landscaped, and even though my visit was in February, it was easy to imagine how beautiful it must be when everything is green and the flowers in the gardens are blooming. As it was, there were daffodils blooming in a bed in front of one of the houses. There is a rose garden behind the Victorian house that features heritage varieties of roses climbing over a tunnel-like trellis. I need to go back and see that in bloom, as well as the other rose gardens in the city. There are wide brick pathways connecting the various buildings, so it gives you the feeling of walking through a small town. Leashed dogs are allowed in the park, and it was nice to be able to let our dog get out of the car and get some exercise with us while we were there. There is excellent signage giving thorough information on each building. As far as I’ve been able to tell, only the 1850s Gilbert House, still on its original foundation, is on the National Register of Historic Places, though all of the buildings are interesting and reflect the history of the area. I especially liked the log structures and the information that was provided on the signs contrasting the earlier and later construction methods that were represented by the buildings. I was very impressed by the level of detail put into the park, like the table with dominos in front of the reconstructed gas station and the suitcase sitting by the bench near the train station. According to the city’s web page, they frequently hold special events in the park including vintage baseball games, star parties, and holiday-related events.

You have to ask - "what is Farmers Branch all about" - you will get some of the answer here. Rural oasis in the middle of a very urban area.

We took our son out to this historical park today. Had no idea this little gem was in Farmers Branch! There are several different houses..some log cabins..some Victorian style, and one stone house that is still on it's original foundation. There is also an old church, an old schoolhouse, old-timey gas station, blacksmith shop, carriage shop, and a small depot with one old caboose. The place was actually closed for Memorial Day, but the maintenance guy was there, and was able to show us around and give us an impromptu tour! He was extremely nice and knowledgeable as well. There is also a garden and a gazebo/picnic area, as well as a large field behind the buildings. Plenty of space for kids! All 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it as a little historical excursion, or as a place for a wedding reception, photography shoot, etc. ... Just a note, I don't think they have any food for sale, but we were not here when it was officially open, and we didn't go into the office/gift shop area. There may be snacks there. I did see a coke machine on the grounds, and water fountains. There may be stroller parking or storage in there as well but I really don't know.
