We spent a weekend at the ranch, with all the greatest expectations, given all the positive reviews. On the first night, the upstairs toilet overflowed. The bathroom floor was not sealed, and the overflow leaked downstairs over the kitchen counters. That probably explained the strange smell that was emanating from the kitchen when we arrived. They fixed the clogged toilet the next day, but it is pretty difficult to recommend a place with fundamental issues like a non-sealed bathroom floor that dripped onto a food prep area.Overall, the place was not terribly clean, and basic.Perhaps a wrong fit for city folks, but it was pretty hard going for the weekend. The activities were not well planned, and depended on who was available at the time. We did not manage many of the activities, but do acknowledge it was a wet rainy weekend. On the positive note, they were very friendly, and tried very hard. The longhorns were very sweet. I think with better coordination of activities and a few more amenities, this place could work out, but not for us at this time.

If you want to stay on a cattle ranch and stay in historic accommodations, then this is your place! You can do nothing or go horseback riding, shooting, or throw a tomahawk. The Creekside House is their newest acquisition and it's amazing, Built around 1855, it was relocated here and restored to its original feel. Modern conveniences have been added, which include heat, air, bathrooms, and more. The porch is great to relax on as well. Watch the horses and deer in the back yard. Historic Brenham is a short, beautiful country road away.

I stayed at the Creekside House with friends for a weekend of antique shopping at Round Top. The house is lovely with a nice, large front porch and a large back porch off the kitchen with a lower deck. The kitchen, while not a full kitchen in our opinion, was adequate for our needs. The house is beautifully decorated to the time period in which it was built. It even has a powder bath that is not in the house description which was a pleasant surprise. It's quiet and peaceful especially in the mornings, horses come up in the pasture nearby. The house was clean, no dirty feet or socks resulted from walking on the floors. We did find coffee grounds in the coffee maker from a previous guest plus a cookie sheet with congealed grease under the kitchen sink. A couple of the beds upstairs are a little on the short side so if you are tall you won't be able to stretch out all the way when laying down.We had no major issues during our stay. More towels were needed and were provided. The smoke alarm in the queen bedroom began to chirp our first night there and we could not get in touch with anyone about it. One phone number was inaccessible according to the phone company, another's mail box was full. We left a message on a third phone number but received no call backs so we removed the smoke alarm from the wall and that solved the problem. We thought that someone would come in and put a new battery in the smoke alarm sometime during our stay but they didn't.We do feel that the bathroom descriptions on the website are inadequate. Each bathroom has a claw foot tub and we feel this should be mentioned. The master has a claw foot tub plus a separate walk in shower. The queen has a claw foot tub with a hand held shower attachment but no shower curtain which causes some difficulty in using it. The upstairs bath has a claw foot tub with a shower and curtain. But there was a note stating that the shower was not usable and we were not told this in advance. Had we known that each bathroom had claw foot tubs and that there was only one walk in shower available, we would not have booked this house for our stay.I don't want to sound like a Negative Nellie because we did enjoy our stay. We just feel that some improvements could be made on site and on the web site description and that bringing these things to light will help others decide if this is the right house for them.

Wonderful experience! Amazingly imaginative restored historic homes and many opportunities for ranch related activities from Texas BBQ cooking, fishing, riding, "mule tours", skeet shooting, tomahawk throwing to riding the original mechanical bull from Gilly's which also appeared in the movie Urban Cowboy. While not the cheapest place, it is an extraordinary place. It was a welcome respite from a busy work life. I highly recommend a visit for either individuals or group events. They even have a chapel for weddings.

We loved the peaceful tranquil atmosphere at Texas Ranch Life.

Good food and great service, down home atmosphere, right on the main drag of town in a converted service station. They grow their own vegetables on site.
