My brother and I were in town for a holiday visit with our parents and decided to play golf since the weather was warm over the Christmas weekend. We called and easily got a tee time and a $45.00 winter weekend rate. They have a huge driving range that we put to good use. They also had a wonderful chipping and putting green with good sloping to really hone the short game. We teed off and found the course to be in great condition with fast putting greens. The course has great elevation changes that make it challenging and interesting. The front 9 is definitely a challenge that warms you up for the outstanding back 9. The par 3's are amazing with precision shots over creeks, lakes and a beautiful island green. There are dog legs, blind shots to elevated greens, hidden creeks in front of greens, lakes that come into half of the fairway that are hidden from the tee, and uphill, downhill, and side hill shots. This course has it all and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The last hole is a long uphill par 4 with a blind shot to an elevated green. We both pared this one to cap off a wonderful golfing experience. Mom and Dad will definitely be seeing more of us this spring as we can not wait to return!!!

Birdwood is a fine course, but the back nine which winds into the uplands away from the highway is unmatched in Virginia. The golfer feels like he or she has gotten away from civilization as the holes play in varied directions with absolutely not house of OB. The island green is a highlight as are various other shots featuring change of elevation. Number 11 may be the toughest par four in Virginia and a par is a great accomplishment.

I have played here several times since it opened. I have never played well when I have been here, but that is mostly my fault. The greens are in very good shape and the fairways are nicely groomed. The front nine is definitely easier than the back, but both sides have some interesting holes.

Came into town for a football game and had some time for a round of golf and my buddy set us up a noon tee time, it's a bit chilly in Charlottesville in late November but the course was very well maintained for a university course and the course is quite challenging and fun, we actually came back the next morning for 9 more holes. The lunch was great. The cheese burger hit the spot before our round...

Was in town for a wedding and had an afternoon to kill. Great way to do so. Fun, challenging course and the greens (11/27/14) were in great shape and quick. Would definitely play again.Only thing holding the course back from 5 stars is there were a lot of stinkbugs all over our carts.

This is a must for golfers. It serves as the home course for the Univ. of Virginia golf teams. Felt highly welcomed by super friendly staff. An absolutely beautiful course that plays well - challenging and fair. Play from the tees that best suit your game, and enjoy a great day of golf. I'll be back!

Wonderful golf course. The staff was extremely friendly and provided tips on playing the course since we were from out of town. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Rental clubs were in great shape (Callaway). Very enjoyable round.

Put this course on your bucket list of places to play. It really is special and started the moment I pulled into the parking lot. The fairways, greens, greens and everything about this course is great. Special thanks to Phil, the players assistant for giving tips and advice on the course.

Food is just like any other golf course but the golfing is great. Make sure you arrive in golfing attire or they won't let you golf on their course.

My wife and I played Birdwood 7/25/13. We only played the front nine but took the cart through the back nine. The course is in great condition and everyone was very friendly. Iseemed a little pricey ($40 per person for 9 holes) for a weekday. There is no senior rate. Very nice facility run by UVA.

Had a good round here among nice scenery, especially on the back nine. Loved the elevated tees on some holes

This course is always in great condition; this time of year it is exceptional. Has an excellent practice facility, but that is reserved for the UVa. Golf team in season. Very challenging course, but with multiple tees you can still have fun with a mixed group.

This course is terrific. The practice facility (the UVA team's home course) is on par with any top end resort. It has a private club feel. The views are great and the course is challenging but not unfair.

Got to play here, recently and loved the course. The folks in the pro shop were very friendly and accomodating. I played as a single and was paired with two guys from Baltimore. We had a great time together. The course is laid out over very rolling terrain and the blue tees are all you could ask for. The par 3's are as good as you could want for any course. Lunch in the clubhouse isn't too bad, either. Overall, a great place to play.
