blue ridge vineyard

When I was single and living in Roanoke, I enjoyed taking trips out to Blue Ridge. Sometimes I went on my own and had a glass of wine, bought my dinner and could sit and enjoy a comfortable laid back atmosphere and some good music. It was also a great place to bring a date, a nice casual atmosphere where you could bring some snacks and enjoy different bands. We chose BRV for our wedding site for many reasons! It is one of the only vineyards in VA where I like every single wine that they have to offer, and typically I am only a white or white and sweets wine person. They knew their products and were able to describe perfectly what it would taste like and it was great. If you perfer the heavy oaked versions of Merlot and the heady tannin laden reds then don't go here, that's not what you will find. My husband's mother loved their wines and she's been a wine drinker for many decades and has a picky "palate". We/I have never had a problem with service, they have always been super friendly there and even during our wedding the guests commented on how accomodating and friendly the staff were. I cannot say enough good about Barbara, she is fantastic, she was super helpful in the wedding planning process and having their own wedding planner was super duper worth it and totally awesome! We still go back for a relaxed evening to enjoy wine and music. They have expansive grounds which my neices loved to roam in (with supervision) and no one had anything negative to say. We still give out bottles of their wine as gifts and people aren't disappointed. The views are gorgeous, the staff and owner are fantastic and you won't be let down.

My comments are pretty much in line with the past reviewer. OK wine, sub par service, gorgeous views. I wouldn;t go as far to say skip it, but I wouldn't travel out just for it. THen again that is one of the two things it has going for it, proximaty to Virginia Mountain with the other being the property/views.

Great views. Mediocre wines. Inhospitable service. Time better spent at other local wineries such as Virginia Mountain and Fincastle.

My husband and I have visited this vineyard twice and both times came away saying WOW! It's not just the amazing location and gorgeous views - its the whole ambience of the place. Welcoming, easy and comfortable and very nice wines. It s a great place to kick back, try some delightful wines and sit down with a glass and enjoy your surroundings or some lovely local music.We'll be coming back often.
