If you like this type of stuff it's nice. A "George Washington slept here" kinda town, and old colonial homes all up and down the street if this wasn't enough. Kept in good condition, the gardens were my favorite part. Went to a craft fair, wonderful craft fair during the town's fall festival.

Visit the historic area of Suffield, CT just 5 miles from the Hartford Airport. If you want to visit one of the best private school in the United States then you must see this campus. I have been to high school in every major city in the U.S. and I was impressed with the students and faculty. If you have the money to send your children to the best, then place the location of your travel tour.

There is a map out called Connecticut Barns Trail. Is like an scanvanger hunt,a lot of finding these barns and whatever else, you happen upon, like we toured the Phelps-Hatheway House,with a very knowledgable guide.. Next door was a very interesting barn. The map is very easy to follow,but you still feel like you are on a hunt.We also saw a brick barn,very rare and a corner stone with a time capsule to be opened in 2058 on that site. You could spend an entire weekend there,we had limited time and agreed to go back next year. Most places close in Oct. or Nov. for the season,the map gives hours and info about the barns. There is no reason why you couldn't drive by them at any time however.The very first thing to do is send for the map at Connecticutbarnes.org. Very enjoyable adventure. The map will inform you,there are different things at each barn,example,some have an exhibit,or vegetable stand,etc

I had an excellent tour. When you start out, its ok. But the second part of the house, which also was built in the 1700s was much more grand. Very good docent.

If you enjoy touring well-preserved mansions and learning a little local history, you will want to stop here.

This is a beautiful historic house on a beautiful historic Main Street. Try to combine the visit with one of the King House Museum <suffieldhistoricalsociety.org/kinghouse.htm>. Call them in advance to ask if Lester Smith, the town historian, can give you a tour. You won't regret it.
