This was a nice family outing, but was expensive to get in. You had the choice of driving around to see the animals, or walking.

We spent a wonderful day here. Ate a picnic lunch right by the zebra. Our 2 year old grandson loved running around and feeding the animals in the petting zoo. Even our 2 nieces age 15 and 4 loved it. Beautiful museum. The gift shop was very reasonably priced. You drive your car around and are encouraged to stop along the way, get out for a closer look at the animals. They also have a great playground. Great day activity. This is a non profit zoo. So all money goes back in to the park. Your admission is tax deductible.

We walked through the entire park. You can park up on the hill and walk. You have the option to drive through. There's a small barn/petting zoo where you can feed the babies grain for $1 or milk from a bottle for $3. We did both. They had baby goats, a bull and a donkey. The walk/ride area have longhorn and regular cows and bulls, mountain goats, zebra, emu, llamas and mini horses. There is one section labeled drive thru safari which holds a type of Japanese deer and a few more emu. They have picnic tables under a pavilion and a large playground. We brought our lunch. The map said there was a snak shack but a private party was going on and I didn't see them selling anything. There's a small museum with lots of interesting animals and a little gift shop. All monies go directly back to the animals' care. This is a nonprofit and they don't get any government funds. It was a nice trip for our family. We have kids ranging from 5-14.

The good thing is it costs no extra to drive your vehicle around this attraction, but the road around the 'safari' is very rough. You'll see a few deer (but we only saw one of the types), and some birds or ducks, and maybe a turtle at the pond.The fenced corrals have some farm animals, and a zebra, llamas, and few other animals, but you can seldom get close to them due to the sizes of their fenced areas.There's a barn where you can feed the goats and sheep, including giving milk bottles to the young ones.The 'museum' consists of a big room with stuffed animals of all types in a blended diorama.At $10/adult, this is a mildly amusing place to bring some young ones (but likely any kids over the age of 12 will be bored silly) for a couple of hours, at most.

Well, not a true safari, but this is a drive thru estate where there are many animals out in the fields for viewing.This was a great trip for the boys. After we did our drive, they loved the playscape, and the indoor taxidermy exhibits.Overall, this is unique for the area and a great place for a day trip.

I thought the park was very beautiful and great for small children. The price was very reasonable ($10 for adults) and well worth it to spend a full day there (get there early though because it closes at 4:30p). Its great that they let you bring food and drinks in so you can have a picnic in the beautiful grounds. The only thing I had a problem with us that there wasn't a place to grab something to eat or drink, but like I said, you can bring your own stuff. Overall an excellent daytrip for CT residents and surrounding areas.

We recently attended the Joyful Noise wine tasting at the indoor facility and we were amazed at the life size, natural history diorama in this facility. It rivals many museums. What a treat to party along side such majestic creatures, all in our own backyard!

The inside is nice, but a little creepy. It needs to be dusted. Having something with animals sounds would be cool, too.There was a nice drive through "safari" that was cool.... though you see mostly deer. They were cute, though.

This was our 1st trip to AWF and we plan on going back again. It was a neat place to see. They did have your typical farm animals and some other neat animals as well. I was under the impression with the Drive Thru Safari that there were African animals but instead it was deer and Emus which was neat but on very Giraffe or monkey like that you would expect with a safari. I prayed my tires did not pop as the road is unpaved and rocky. We choose to originally walk the whole way but when we saw the safari we went back and got the car. The museum was neat it had all the African and North American Animals taxidermied and posed the kids loved seeing animals they would usually see at the zoo far away up so close. I feel this place is worth the money and the time to see enjoyable afternoon. You could also use their picnic tables for lunch and a nice playground for the little ones.

Only $10 a person and a great chance to drive around and look at a lot of different animals. The petting zoo is really fun if you buy the $1 cup of food. The animals are really fun and let you pet them while they feed. The rest of the time you get to drive around and stop at each area to look at the animals. Nothing too exciting but it is a lot of fun for a little while.

The main grounds are great for small children. They will see horses, cows, goats...the usual farm animals with a few more exotic exceptions (but still bovine and equine family). The drive-thru "safari" is basically just a drive through the woods...where you'll see deer. Maybe. Yep. That's it. Don't even consider that a part of the attraction. You will pay the fee just to see the main area. The petting zoo is basically goats behind a fence that you pay to feed ($1 for a *small* cup of grain or $3 for a bottle of milk). There were quite a few cute baby goats when we visited yesterday. Overall, this is a nice attraction for young children...but having seen many other animal and nature centers, farms, and zoos, this place did not meet our expectations and we will not be returning. The best parts of the day: seeing the one zebra at AWF and indulging in amazing ice cream at Peaches n' Cream at Litchfield (that is must!).

This is a good destination if you have 4-9 year-olds in your group. No scary monsters, just friendly (or indifferent) creatures. Peaches 'n Cream in Litchfield is a good finale.

We had guests from out of the US and decided to take them to the AWF. I was surprised about how interesting it was. It was warm that day and many of the animals were not visible. Go when it is cool!

That being said, if you enjoy seeing or bringing your kids to see a mind-blowing variety of exotic animals in caged area after cage in a typical "zoo" setting, then skip this. We have visited twice. Go early and plan to spend the day. Pack a cooler - lunch, water bottles, hats, sunscreen, etc. (like any park outing). The taxidermy display is excellent and is in a spacious, lifelike setting. You can spend a good 1/2 hour or more inside, checking out the different species, etc. If you are up for it (landscape in the park is kind of rolling hills), bring a wagon for the littlest ones. We spent a whole day this way, walking along the roads and stopping to admire the different species. My child delighted in watching the goats climb, seeing the gigantic face of a buffalo up close, admiring the enormous horns of the watutsi cattle. We even got to see the water buffalo take a dip in the water and chase the black swan as a little joke (she got away just fine and squawked at him from the shore). If you have the day to laze around and see animals just doing their thing in a natural setting, this place is great! In the fall we tossed a few tiny apples that fell off a tree outside the american elks area over the fence for them and they enjoyed gobbling them up (they were already eating ones that fell into their area as well) and sitting on the grass watching the zebra for a long time. The wild boars are my fave. The drive-through safari is nice - mostly saw more deer, goats, and emu or ostrich - we didn't go for it on our 2nd trip but I would do it again, you can stop anywhere, get out and take pictures, etc.The picnic area is wonderful and shady, and the playground is awesome - the "big kids" slides are actually fun for adults, they are so big! The cost may seem high but if you enjoy doing the things I talked about, it is a wonderful day trip. We will be back!

Action wildlife is an opportunity for families to see a variety of animals upclose and in a beautiful country setting. Great place!
