Whenever we pass by the historic marker at the intersection that indicates the direction of the museum, we always say, "we should check that out some day". Well, today was some day! What a great find! We were surprised at the military vehicle collection outside. While everything was covered in snow, it was still impressive. Inside, they have well documented pieces that surprised even a non military history buff across all wars. The gentleman at the front desk was knowledgable and helpful. We were just so delighted to find it!

We are photographers and did a photoshoot there. Since then we've been back multiple times. The tanks outside are super cool, but there is also so much inside!

Perfect for military historian buff. You get to climb or enter some of the tanks and armored vehicles! Best $8 spent ever!

My Son and I have been going here for years and every time we go ,we always find something new .The guys there really care about their exhibits and are very helpful to answer your questions. This is a great place to spend an hour or two looking at exhibits, tanks and other vehicles .

Excellent little military museum that will appeal greatly to the military buffs out there. Not expected in a city historically known for it's hat industry. For those who know 20th century armor, they have a nice collection outside, you can guess where they got the vehicles on the surplus market with most having a middle eastern look. The exhibits and dioramas inside were very good. All in all it's a great place to visit if you like this type of thing.

The Military Museum of Southern New England is most excellent. My son is a big fan, they have open turret days and you can climb into all the tanks they have and have lots old military equipment. Inside they have lots of military information and lots of real displays. It has to be the largest collection of military vehicles inside the United States. And many of them actually run. We always go down for the Memorial Day Parade each year. They day before the parade they give Tank rides in a real Sherman Tank. This is a must see for any Military History buffs.

On arrival we were given a booklet listing all the outside exhibits, some of them looked a little battle weary in the snow that partially covered them but this only but this only added to the authenticity. Back inside the voluntary helper Phil (it is good to remember the Museum is staffed by volunteers) gave us plenty of information on the exhibits and the dioramas on show. This may not be the biggest Museum in the world but they do try to present things in the battleground environment in which the exhibits were used. this would be a good place for families to spend a couple of hours looking at recent history.

Spent a very happy 2 hours in this very interesting museum. We planned to arrive during "open turret" day which is when they open the gate to let everyone climb, look into and touch all of the tanks and armored cars, etc. My 11 year old thoroughly enjoyed this. Inside was a small, very tidy museum filled with posters, photos, personable memorabilia, uniforms, guns, k-ration kits and letters. Very friendly and chatty volunteer workers. Definitely recommend.

Very cool! We went to the Military Museum of S. New England on a Cub Scout visit. Never knew it existed, but once we got there, we found lots of old miltiary trucks and tanks for various countries and wars....who knew? Inside was also very interesting as they had a number of historical items some dating back to the early 1900's/WWI and exhibits showing in real life size, how various weapons were used. I would highly recommend this if you have kids or are interested in Military history....GREAT FIND!

A small museum. The exhibits in the building takes about 1/2 hour but they do have some unique items like the Goliath remote control bomb and a "tankette". The really good stuff is the parking lot area filled with old tanks, trucks, cannon, and armoured cars (mostly unrestored and "as is"). Many of which you can climb on and even climb onto (depending on your agility). Even the wife liked having her picture taken in the hatch of a tank (which the grandaughters thought was pretty neat, also).

This museum is great , why aren't there more people here . I guess it's because we visited during the week and not on a weekend . My wife and kids are not military buffs but they are interested in history so we all had a good time . Plenty of free parking and other museums near by . Don't miss this one .

Great day trip for young and old a like.Check their web site for Open Turret Day and other events before going. The Danbury Fair Mall is right down the street and there are also some good restaurants in the area.

The indoor exhibits were nicely presented, but the outdoor area could use a little sprucing up. Some of the vehicles looked like little more than refugees from a scrapyard.

Right in the front yard! Plus a good collection of military memorabilia. Definitely worth an hour of your time.
