Yes, the place looks just like the pictures, and the inside is just as funky as the outside. Willie Seaberry greets everyone who comes in, and continually goes from table to table making sure everyone is having a good time. He changes costumes a couple of times during the night, he's a show all by himself. It's a diverse crowd, and everyone has a good time - dancing, drinking $3 beers or drinking whatever else you want to bring in. You can't go to the Delta and miss Poor Monkeys!

I like going to Po' Monkeys because Mr Willie Seaberry (owner) makes me feel welcome everytime I visit. He is a blast to be around. The atmosphere is great. There are people from all over the world that go to Po' Monkeys and I have met some really interestin people. What I don't care for are the restroom accommodations. My advise is to try not to use them if at all possible. If you must, please make sure you have hand sanitizer (not sinks) and your own toilet paper (which you can't flush, you put it in the waste paper basket). Also, the place is ONLY open on Thursday so make sure that you put that in your travel plan. I would also like to hear live blues here. There is only a DJ that plays "slick blues". But all, in all, it is a great time.Oh, if you are wanting something other than beer to drink (which is all that is sold), make sure to bring your own, it is allowed.

We go to Clarksdale a couple of times a year to stay at the Shack UP INN. Cant miss Thur night at Po Monkeys. The last two times the same famous movie star was there and the last time in Jan they were filming Parts Unkown and we were dancing on CNN. Willie is a very nice man. You wonder if the floor will fall through but you keep on dancing. Folks there from around the world.

I was born in Merigold, but now live in St. Louis and I visit Po Monkey's whenever I am home. Celebrated my 58th birthday there. you must experience!!!! Met two tourist from Australia a couple of years ago at Po Monkey's.

Just go there, especially if you love the blues. Po' Monkey asked us to sit at his table and we literally danced to every tune! LOVE this juke joint...

Monkey won't be around forever, so go while you can!... Or don't, as it is now overloaded with tourists. Po' Monkey doesn't play much blues - most nights it is a DJ, but the atmosphere is worth it.

If you find yourself in the Delta on a visit, there's a good chance the blues brought you there. Thus, it is imperative that you experience the blues in its purest form, and that means a visit to Po Monkeys Lounge. The proprietor, Monkey, has lived in this shack his entire life (yes, it's his house), and spends the days working in the fields. Every Thursday he opens the place up to guests and live music, where you spend the evening dancing away. This is juke joint blues at its finest; raw and unfiltered with nothing corporate. He goes out and buys beer from the grocery store and sells it at cost to people who attend. Smoking of all sorts is rampant inside, despite the fact the place feels like a death trap. Monkey keeps everyone entertained with all sorts of hilarity, from dancing with the ladies to coming out with wacky costumes. And the music just keeps playing and playing and playing...It's so incredible to be in a place where nobody is judging you, and everyone just wants to have a good time. As the other reviewers here said, this is the last of it's kind. Get there now.

Don't miss it. It won't last forever and it one of the last.Hard to find at night since it is in the middle of nowhere and they gave replacing the stolen "Po Monkey Road" signs.Plan you trip so you can be there on a Thursday when it is open. Very friendly crowd. Someone not familiar with the Delta except for historical problems might be put off by the racial mix but this is a great role model for modern diversity. I arrived early last time I was there and asked the girl at the door is she was from there. When she said "yes" I asked if she mean Merigold. She told me no, that Merigold was across the road a few miles away. She pointed to the back room, and said "that's where I am from, I was born in that room". They sell beer but bringing you own bottle of liquor is acceptable. The "no drugs in here" apparently applies to inside the juke if the smell of the smoke in the parking lot is any indication. But no problems ever arise.

Can't skip this one!!!!!! Awesome place - we loved the experience.. Arrived around 6:00pm to take some pics, left around 2:00am after falling in love with Po Monkey (Willie) and his home / joint..... Only open on Thursday nights to public... Willie is the best host - very safe environment - soooo much fun people watching :-)

I also hesitated to write this review because there's more than enough visitors coming already but, if you want to experience one of the last real juke joints, you should make the effort to stop here. Is it neat - no, is it stylish - no, is it modern - not a chance. When I first had a chance to stop back in early 2000 it was still probably as it had always been - raucus R&B music, and locals enjoying themselves drinking and dancing. My last visit recently there were probably 70% tourists and 30% locals on this particular evening, although there was a local blues fest going on. It's much easier to find Po' Monkey's now as there are Blues Trail signs that direct you to it. At Merigold you turn west and go maybe a 1/4 mile, there you follow the road that angles left (Blues Trail sign is there) and keep going until you see Po' Monkey's on the left. Mr Seaberry is a very friendly, gracious owner. If you want a taste of a true juke joint, you WILL enjoy.

I almost feel bad writing this review because one of the main charms of Po Monkeys is that it is not a touristy place. It is a very authentic juke joint. My husband and I planned our trip to the Mississippi delta around the one night it is open-Thursday. We got there at 8:45 and the DJ was already playing and there was a decent crowd. The owner greeted us and made us feel welcome. We bought some beer - the only alcoholic beverage served - and settled in a booth to enjoy the R&B music. I am glad we got there early because the small space filled up and seating became an issue. Dont go expecting to see a band - go to experience a piece of Americana.
