The grounds and location for the park are beautiful. This was our second trip. However most of the facilities that the State Park system inherited with the property are still in their run down state. It is a great place to go away from the crowd and sit and watch the river flow past. Maybe even do some fishing.

My son and his wife had visited this park a few years back and were very impressed with it. We went to check into it being a possible location for a large family weekend getaway. We were might by the woman (caretaker?) who lives there in the park. She seemed immediately defensive and rude, demanding to know why we were there. She did grudgingly show us around but didn't want any of us out of her sight for even a moment. She was very possessive, constantly asking that things not be touched. While in the screened BBQ area my grand daughter saw a golf ball lying in a plastic buffet table and was rolling it around in the table, this woman went and absolutely snatched it out of her hand. We asked about renting one of the buildings for the weekend and were told that wasn't an option that they weren't open to overnight vistors and she didn't know when they would be. I realize the historic and ecological value of sites such as this but if this woman holds a golf ball and a modern plastic buffet table in such high regard that even that can't be touched they may as well take down the state park sign and put up a gate across the road. Seemed like a huge waste of public land that can't really be used except as her private playground

Nine of us just spent two days canoeing/kayaking on the Current River, which is fed by dozens (or more) of natural springs spewing turquoises blue water into this amazing river. So clear you can see the bottom nearly everywhere, watch the trout and bass swim by, numerous eagles and kingfishers overhead, towering rock formations and gorgeous trees. We started 8 miles above Akers Ferry and ended about 25 miles downstream, about 10 hours on the water plus lunch breaks and a couple short hikes to see water falls, spring pools, or caves.

We live the current river. Not as crowded as some, especially during the week. We always stay at Pulltite campground and do a 2-day canoe trip. Love it!!

Recently I had the pleasure of a visiting Current River State Park in Missouri. There my son and I visited a historic corporate retreat, built between 1937-1945 with many of the original furnishings still in the main house. The grounds are immaculately maintained with the original tennis court, fire pit, hiking trails and a gym available for use with reservations to the public. My son stayed there last fall and enjoyed kayaking down the river, with caves nearby to explore. The facilities have been recently opened for groups to stay in and it would be a wonderful location for family reunions. This would be a perfect place for such an event with many options from lounging in a lawn chair to hiking to fishing, something for everyone. This would also be a perfect location and idea for a picturesque wedding. There is an open field which would be perfect for an outdoor wedding and it has a screened in porch for the reception and a huge kitchen. It is about two hours from St. Louis, but the whole weekend could be inclusive to this location. St. Louis and the surrounding area is missing a great weekend get away right in their backyard.

We visited the new state park and scouted it out as a take out point for short float trips on the Current River. The facilities look to be very nice as updating was still in process. While there is no official put in/take put access point, the picnic area is just up a small hill from the river and two people can easily drag a canoe up it without issue.

Most of the reviews listed on this site are about floating on the Current River. They are not about the state park. The Current River is part of the National Park system: Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Canoe rentals are concessions. The National Park Service patrols the river. The STATE PARK is a recently opened facility on the Current River, accessible by canoe or by road. It is open only on weekends (Friday through Sunday). Facilities are under renovation. Only porta-potties are available.Activities include walking a nature trail and picnic tables. Birding is excellent. The Alton Box Company facilities built 50 to 80 years ago for company employee recreation include a gym, skeet range, pool and poker tables.

Set in the rugged hills bordering Current River, the state park is the site of a St. Louis based business retreat. Unique architectural styles compliment the rustic buildings in this beautiful region. Wild horses do rome the Current River Valley.

i have floated the current river lots of times and have never been disapointed. the best floats are the upper section, cedar grove to round springs. it's nice not to see or hear any motor boats. the current has two faces 1 weekends , party central great for our girls weekend out .2 weekdays when it" much quieter for family outing with the grandkids. the water is cool and clear nothing better on a hot mo. day.

We floated on a saturday. If you hear a boat running you better get out the way. This is a beautiful river. It was very populated and crowded, along with heavy drinking and even a fight as we loaded our gear. You will see lots of police, heavy drinkers, more tubes than kayaks or canoes, be aware of the motor boats. This is not a river I would take my family to at the end of summer. I might be open for an early fall float to check out the scenery when all the drunken tubers are gone.
