We came to Missouri specifically to do family history research. The staff welcomed us and gave us all-day access to their online resources, and helped us understand the resources they had right there on the shelves. All staff members were helpful but Iveta stands out: I asked her for help with what I thought was a fairly simple question (trying to find the exact date of a death that occurred about 1880); she spent 30-40 minutes with me looking at all kinds of databases and things I would not know to use. We never did find the answer but we ruled things out. They offer classes, though I was not there on the right day to take any. Now I know more about genealogical resources and can probably find them closer to home - but I am still glad I traveled 500 miles to go the the Midwest Genealogical Center.

This was my first experience with a library that focuses on genealogy and it was well worth the visit. We also signed up for a free beginner's class that was very informative.

We are regular visitors of the Midwest Genealogy Center. The staff is courteous and very helpful and there are people who can help you with your research if you hit a snag. Vast amounts of resources can be found here, from obscure genealogical books, to microfilm, to free online access to ancestry.com. If you are a genealogist visiting the Kansas City area, this is a place that you cannot miss.

Great genealogy library. Just happened to find it and was pleasantly surprised at what I found. All of the staff were very helpful and attentive to my needs. They have a lot of information specifically about the mid-west people. I was able to spend 4 days there & found may new things.

We live about 200 miles from Independence, Missouri but made this trip on recommendations of fellow genealogists that this library was excellent! I was not disappointed! The library is beautiful on the outside and inside, well-kept and very organized. The staff are so knowledgeable and so very helpful in every regard of genealogy research. For a nominal fee of $20 I joined the library for six months and can use all their subscriptions from my home computer during that time. I am looking forward to returning many times to use their great facilities. My husband was very happy with the location of the library as there is a great golf course right across the street where he played golf while I did genealogy research. By the way the name of the course is Drumm Farms golf course.

We have found a lot of great background information on ancestors here. They have many obscure and local books and references to even the smallest towns, with stories about the history and perhaps the role of your ancestors in development of the area. The library staff is also extremely helpful in locating the exact information you are looking for.

Wish I could have spent days there. They have so much research stuff available for all the states, not just Missouri. We had a hard time finding it but it's a beautiful research library after you get there. Staff is extremely helpful if you ask.

Went there to find info to lead me to where my relatives were buried in the late 1800's. Very friendly and helpful.

Very impressive! So much material. The facility is quite large and very open. The staff are experts and eager to help. I've been to the Salt Lake City Genealogy Library, and I would have to say that this is a nice compliment to it. It's the midwestern version.Time slips by quickly when you begin looking for information on your ancestors. Be sure to set aside several Hours for your visit. There are plenty of computers, etc., to aid in your research. What's better than finding a name, dates, families and children? Stories about them! I've found several volumes that contain stories written about my ancestors, by the people that knew them. Valuable insights into their personalities, families, employment, health, living conditions, economy, and what the really early days were like and the trials they experienced and overcame. That really add to my genealogy stats. I'm getting to Know my ancestors.

An amazing collection and very helpful staff for those interested in genealogy. Computers are available for public use and there is no charge for their use or for access to the many internet sites. It's an ideal beginning for searching for family history.

There were many people doing research when we visited. If you are from this area, I bet you would find much information. The staff seemed excellent. We are from Wisconsin, but decided to check it out anyway. My husband found a marriage notation about his grandparents....surprise, surprise.

This place is incredible for all you genealogy buffs, and every bit as awesome as the mother ship in Salt Lake if you are looking for family members in the US. (Salt Lake has a wider international scope.) Only 5 years old, this facility is gorgeous, well staffed and with free ancestry.com. Great for a novice genealogy buff like me.
